    Re: Official Rock music thread

Monday night, United Center, Chicago, I'll be there.

Man, if I'm running around like Mick at 69 yrs old, I'll be in good shape, espcically, towards the end of the song.

Going to see Primus and Gov't Mule on Wednesday night. Should be a fun show.

It was just announced that Bob Dylan is playing a show here on July 9 with Wilco and My Morning Jacket.

First time he's come back to his birthplace to play since 1999.

A good album to check out is The Stranglers - Giants. They're originally a punk band from the late 70s in England that is still making good music. Giants came out this year and is very solid.

Chris Adler (drummer for Lamb of God) has joined Protest the Hero for a side project. I don't know many details as it was just announced, nor do I have any expectations as I don't listen to PTH. Any PTH fans care to chime in and tell me what I'm missing?

PTH is awesome. Progressive metal band from Canada and has a very distinct sound.

Stream link for Smith Westerns new album Soft.

The Chicago band's third album unleashes a sparkly charm offensive that practically rolls down your car windows for you. Sweet and dreamy, slick and sunny, Soft Will is the sound of weaponized agreeability.

Been looking forward to this one. About to give it a listen now.

Brand New's sophomore album "Deja Entendu" turns 10 today. The youth of the early-mid 2000's who are now in their 20's, maybe even 30's, rejoice.

I've always found Brand New to be mostly universally liked and revered. Kinda like older Taking Back Sunday, though when BN releases new material it's a pretty big deal, probably because they're kinda cryptic about it and there's typically a good 3-4 years between releases.

I still dig their first album the most, but I recognize the importance of the next two. I still haven't listened much to "Daisy"... I guess now is as good a time as any.

Deja was such a mature album compared to their first, which I liked. Probably because I was in my thirties when I started listening to them. Daisy was ok, but they over did the screaming. Songs like You Stole are classic Brand New though. The band said when they finally do release another disc it will be more like Deja or The Devil and God or a mix of the two.

The NHL series is what got me into Anberlin, Airbourne (along with Madden 08), Bullet For My Valentine, The Black Keys, Disco Ensemble (sweet band, if you haven't heard them.) and Jupiter One (again, along with Madden)

Having listened to them both, I much prefer Deja Entendu. Your Favorite Weapon is a good album for what it is, but as savoie said, Deja Entendu is so much more mature sounding and it set up The Devil and God Are Raging Inside Me really well.

Yeah it was actually the Nhl series that turned me onto Brand New.

Sublime released a new live album from a 1995 show. It's really, really good.

Pretty bummed today. One of my top bands, With the Punches, are going on indefinite hiatus. It's been a year of reunions in that scene, so there's hope for the future, but man. These guys put out some great jams, thought the best was in store but now it's over.

They are coming to Philly for one of 4 farewell shows. I'm obligated to be there.
