    Re: Scarface (Remake/Reimage)

Another prime example of what is wrong with the movie industry these days. Is there no imagination anymore? Every movie is either a lame reboot, remake or endless sequal. Let's have some original movies for a change in every genre and I think the audience is starving for it. Look at inception, it's a pretty vague, ambiguous movie that you would think wouldn't make a ton of money at the box office but it made over $400 million domestically.

While Inception was pretty good I think the boffo B.O.#'s was more an indication of the audience wanting to watch something original for a change, not another X-men movie, pointless and unnecessary remakes (They are remaking the Thing for god's sake, now that's lame......oh sorry it's a prequel) or endless Transformers sequals.

When they remade Scarface the first time DePalma put an entirely new spin on the story and breathed new life to it. He stayed away from everything that made the first movie a classic (the two big ones being the X motif and the incestual relationship).. It also was modernized which made the 2nd Scarface a classic in it's own right.

However the second Scarface is so much more popular than the first Scarface, I think this third one is doomed for failure. No matter what they do from here, it's untouchable and will always be compared... What else can they do with this story? They've already ht booze and drugs, and the 2nd story would still work in the modern day. While the first story wouldn't work after people forgot about prohibition and black and white TV's.... I don't see where they can take this third version honestly...

This better not be some B.S. Carlito's Way 2. Damn that movie sucked compared to the first one.

The more I research this, the more I'm convinced it's just a gangster movie with the Scarface name attached to make money. This is gonna be some Godzilla'98 type bull lol.
