That's the thing though. People have been making that argument for YEARS. My brother said it when he was in his 20's (mid-80's). My sister said it 10 years later, and I've been saying it since high school. The internet has just made everything more accessible, which is why a single album will never be as revolutionary as Nevermind. It's both a good thing, and a bad thing.Through music, you can live forever...TEAMS: San Diego Chargers, San Diego Padres, Notre Dame Fighting IrishComment

I guess it depends on what your barometer of revolutionary is. Nevermind wasn't exactly created in a vacuum. Other bands were laying groundwork and being recognized critically to build up to Nirvana's commercial success. I'm not saying its not a great album, but it certainly isn't the "end all be all" nor do I consider it the last great masterpiece.

Does anyone else think Fugazi kind of got the short end of the stick on all this? Their debut and follow-up albums just before this all broke kind of get lost in the shuffle but were pretty amazing in their own right compared to what was being made. Sure their sound is a little more different and raw, but so was Nirvana's before Nevermind.
Sent from here to there.I've heard this "patience is a virtue" junk all my life. I'm happy to say I have no virtue, no scruples, and no desire to wait too long for anything. In my humble opinion instant gratification takes too long!

No argument. Nevermind is the epitome of "right place, right time". Musically, it's a solid album, but nothing spectacular. It's one of my favorite albums, but nowhere near the best I've ever heard. I just don't see, in the current times where the shuffle feature trumps all, a single album coming along to make as much noise.

I used to listen to this tape on road trips for cross-country and basketball (I was in 7th grade when it was released). Very good album, although I grew to become bigger fans of Soundgarden, Alice in Chains and Pearl Jam.

Ugh....I was a huge hip hop fan at that time and MTV finally started putting in their regular rotation. Then "Smells Like Teen Spirit" happened. Felt like they were shoving that song and kinda music down our throats. I've hated MTV ever since. Of course, it's a completely different channel now. But I still hold a grudge. The New England Patriots cheated to win four Super Bowls.Comment

MTV did shove grunge down our throats, but they did the same with Hair Metal; smart move by them as you play what is popular. Too bad MTV is anything but music television now.Currently Playing:
