Re: Apple Media Event - October 4th, 2011

A little disappointed by the lack of a true iPhone 5 re-design - those case leaks and ultra-thin body got me all excited for nothing. Even more disappointing since they skipped the traditional summer release period and made us wait even longer for the 4S.

The one good thing about no re-design is that all the rumors said the re-design would be similar to the iPad 2 and would be an aluminum back. I MUCH prefer the all white back of the 4/4S.

However, I'm still rocking a 3GS and I'm all over this one. Processor and camera bump are really nice. Hoping I'll find Siri useful - reading SMS's over bluetooth and replying via dictation in the car would be so cool.

Two year contracts have made consumers think before purchasing these high priced phones and it's clearly something people are factoring into with all of these annual updates.
Apple is in business to sell their products and the specs of the 4s put it in company of maybe 3 other phones as best in the market. The inevitable release of a better iphone product a year from now isn't exclusive to Apple. There's a better Android phone coming out like every 3 months now.

Annoyed there's no LTE...I'd be very very tempted if it had Verizon LTE, but I can't anchor myself to a phone for 2 years without LTE....

Well I got my 32GB 3Gs end of August of '09, and had it replaced with a new one (no charge) end of January this year. So it is still "brand new" as far as wear and tear.

The phone has been so good to me. Thus I think it is time for an upgrade to the 4s! Better battery, better hardware, better looking.

          I'm in!

I am not even an Apple fan, but they make a damn good phone that works. Just hoping for more custom "tone" features (without jailbreaking) and I am gravy! Step it up Apple, this is the 21st century, had custom tones 10 years ago in phones.

there's no way apple was going to add LTE with how the current battery life is on those phones and the status of the networks. ATT only just turned LTE on in 5 markets and promises 11 or so by year's end, while Verizon has 143 up. It's pretty limited worldwide as well.

Another year gives time for the networks to grow and batteries to get better. Apple was slow to jump on 3g as well, with the original iphone being edge only.

This update is definitely needed. However, it is more than 3 phones that have the specs.

A lot of really cool features with the phone but I won't upgrade until next year. I was thinking this phone will force me to have to upgrade from my 3GS but I can hold off for another year. No need to switch as I have a little over a year left on my contract and hopefully by then Apple will have the iPhone 5 out.

Or maybe I will go the Android route, who knows...

sure. My point being, there's usually 2 or 3 really hyped android phones always coming out that people will realistically think about when signing a contract. If you're buying a phone now, you'd naturally look at newer stuff like the Galaxy SII, Bionic, or the upcoming Nexus phone.

The iphone needed to be able to stand among newer phones in a spec bulletpoint fight, and this puts it up there right now.

I think that's one source of disappointment, in a 'spec bulletpoint fight' the 4S is behind the G SII, which while new to the US is several months old.

Which is exactly why Apple released the 4s now...it's not a bad phone by any means, just not sexy to the consumer.
