Just rode past an Apple store on my way to work in NYC. Crazy media set up outside. Customer's also outside waiting to go in being interviewed.

      Should be an interesting day.

If anyone is bored, re-watch the original iPhone unveiling on YouTube. I did last night and it is remarkable (1) how truly excited and proud Steve was, and (2) how far ahead the iPhone was from any other phone on the market. The others might as well had a rotary dial on them.

Look how far the market has come. Amazing stuff.

I just heard that his autobiography was moved up from Novermber 21st to October 24th. It has over 40 years worth of interviews about companies he's run, various products and how the revolutionized the industry etc. Also included is an interview w/ Steve just 4 weeks ago, at a point where he knew he was going to die soon. Needless to say, I can't wait for this to come out.

          A true visionary. RIP Steve.

Aside from that, very sad to hear this. It will be interesting to see if Bill Gates releases a statement at all.

              R.I.P Steve Jobs.
I'd have to do more research than I just did as my memory is fuzzy, but I think your facts are a bit off. I don't think Jobs hired Gates...I think it was the other way around or simply a collaborated effort. Jobs then left with Steve Wozniak to form Apple. While they worked together, they stole code from Xerox (Xerox Alto). Both used that code in their intial releases. Jobs had little if anything to do with Windows.

FWIW, Windows 3.1 arrived well before OS 9 (1992 to 1999). There was no Windows 5.1. 3.1 turned into 95 then 98 then Millenium Edition, then 2000, XP, Vista, 7 etc...

Re: According to Apple, Steve Jobs has passed away

To take it a step further, Microsoft invested in Apple (and kept it afloat) when it was about to go under in the late 90s. Then a couple years later, the iPod was invented and the rest was history.

That's my normal life as I don't have any of them.

But the broader stroke of your comment is very true. Jobs was a great innovator of gadgets that many, many people use on a daily basis and can't live without. He was also an excellent marketer and overall extremely intelligent individual. For the second/third largest company in the United States, Jobs was able to avoid the "big business" mantra that has given many large corporations a bad image and instill a belief in people that buying Apple was sticking it to "big business".

It's no surprise he passed as he's been in failing health for a while and refused chemotherapy for alternate methods. It's sad to see the tech world lose such an innovator though (even sadder for his family).
