A Good Day To DIE HARD (2013)

Just announced by Fox today via The Jim Rome Show.

    Random Details:
-Die Hard 5 will be titled A Good Day to Die Hard
    -Shooting begins in January 2012
-The sequel will be released on February 14th, 2013 (Valentine’s Day).
-The story is set in Russia and begins with John McClane heading to Moscow to sweet talk some cops into letting his apparently-wayward son out of jail for something he did, but when he gets there, things surrounding his son’s arrest are not as they appear and world-threatening terrorist hijinks ensue.
-McClane, Jr. has yet to be cast.
-They still don’t know if it will be rated PG-13 or R.
Tom Rothman, co-chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Fox Filmed Entertainment, appeared on Jim Rome this morning to announce the future of the Die Hard franchise. Apparently Rome is a huge fan of the Die Hard series and somehow scored the exclusive. Details can be found after the jump. Here is what was revealed: Die…

Re: A Good Day To DIE HARD (2013)

I've been waiting for this one! I knew it had to come out sometime soon, because pretty soon Bruce Willis will be grandpa status (sorry, but I can't see Robert De Niro playing a physically overpowering gangster anymore... it just doesn't work).

There are only two things I hope for this film, neither of which I will expect to be true:

    - I hope they can ground its roots just a little bit closer to the first two Die Hard movies in terms of action. Back when, it meant everything when a single bullet was fired in that film. You were always concerned for McClane's well-being, and he was very humanized in nature. Now, we have him clinging onto fighter jets and ramming SUVs into elevator shafts. Normally, films can't go anywhere but up in terms of action, which is why I don't think they're going to go backward for this.

    - I really hope that it's rated R. The old Die Hard films had a cluster **** of F-bombs, and McClane used them terrifically with his one-liners. Live Free or Die Hard was an okay film in its unrated form as far as keeping the DH culture, but it still didn't have enough. It was far too modernized (even the blue tint was a bit too much to me) for the nostalgic crowd to appreciate the great action movie that it was regardless. Although, the real problem that I have, is that the Live Free or Die Hard Blu-ray is PG-13 only. They didn't even distribute an unrated copy. I'm hoping I can bring A Good Day to Die Hard home in R-rated glory when it comes out on Blu-ray.

Couldn't agree more, and you did it much more......diplomatically than I could have ever managed.

The ridiculous clichefest of the 4th film wasn't Die Hard, they just jacked the name.

This might be a dumb question, but why would a Die Hard movie not be Rated R?

Fixed that for you. I'm wondering the same thing though.

Well said. The first two were great action movies, and even the third was highly entertaining, but the fourth was just a shell of what the franchise had become.

Have the standards changed that much to what qualifies as an R rated Movie? I haven't paid too much attention to things like that but I've always wondered what would qualify as an R rated Movie in Today's World compared to say 20 years ago.

Re: A Good Day To DIE HARD (2013)

I agree with blzer, I loved the first two Die Hard movies. The first one was actually a thing of genius to me in that the setting was actually a character in its own right. There was a clautrophobic feel to it and the movie had a lot in common with suspense type movies from a decade or two earlier when it wasn't ALL just action but rather a mood and feel to it. The 2nd movie was a little more spread out but it was self contained to a plane/airport type setting so that worked as well.

I also think now that Willis is older they should really play up his vulnerability where a shot or strategically placed blow can be curtains for him rather than being your typical indestructable hero. I think it would add a more human aspect to it and give the movie some REAL tension. Even if they want to keep the big action set pieces with tons of explosions at least make it look like there's a good chance McClane may die.

Because for some reason they decided to make Live Free or Die Hard almost entirely devoid of F words.

                      It was... annoying.

Is this film really necessary? Doesn't Bruce Willis have enough money? There is little chance that this won't be rated PG. If they are including the cliche kid factor and are releasing it on Valentine's day then they want the teen audience which means someone like Shia LeBoeuf (bad) or Tyler Lautner (even worse) will play the annoying son and will be full of CGI crap where Willis and the **** head son act like superheroes. This movie is gonna be ugly.

But that wouldn't be Die Hard. Die Hard successively throws more and more over the top **** at John McClaine. I fully expect someone to say F it and throw a nuke at him which he disarms with a jet.

But seriously, they should dial it back just a little bit. Buck the trend of bigger and badder explosions/set pieces.

Hell yeah. An aging hero, Shia LeBoeu, completely unnecessary nuclear weapons.......wait a minute, they already made that embarrassment of a movie.
