Did they put down a horse in ep. 1? My GF loves horses and I thought she might like this show, but I know that would be hard for her, she used to own horses, and her GP had to put one down. I want to watch this, but I don't really want to deal with all that.

I think they only showed why it had to be put down. Which was much worse.

My wife and I watched the first few episodes because we're both fans of Nolte and Hoffman, but we could not get into this show. Seemed to move slow and we weren't fans of the plot. Has it gotten any better?

I'm still watching, but the show seems very repetitive and super slow.

Nolte grumbling saying god knows what in every scene he's in is kinda funny, but his plotline is a dead end to me. Like what exactly is his purpose in the show?

Most of the show you won't get unless you are into horse racing, but that doesn't mean it will all come together and make sense. I mean I get who Nolte's character is and what he represents, but he still doesn't seem to fit into some greater plotline.

It's like they brainstormed a bunch of ideas surrounding horse racing, then instead of paring those ideas down and finding a common thread for them, they just said screw it we'll throw everything in. Now maybe they will find a way to bring all these elements together in the end, but as of right now I'm not seeing it coalesce.

Also, Gary Stevens is a pretty good actor, he will get more roles outside of being a jockey.

I agree, I mean I understand what Nolte's character represents but he is outside of the main plot to me which seems to revolve around Escalante being in the middle of Ace and the 4 stooges.

Just don't see what they plan on doing with him unless him and Esclante start some sort of rivalry? That would at least connect the dots.

I'll be glued to the TV this Sunday.

I really like the show. I don't really know where the plot is going but I really enjoy this world actually. Really the horses are just awesome. I'm starting to get the love people have for them and I'm actually wanting to learn more about the sport.

I watched the 1st couple of episodes last night & was intrigued. The horse breaking his leg in the 1st episode was a little hard to watch.

Unfortunately since 3 horses have died in the making of this show HBO has canceled it.

edit: I wonder if this will shed an even brighter spotlight on the danger of horse racing. HBO claimed to be extra safe and still didnt do enough to keep these beautiful creatures alive.
