uhm.. you talk about storylines being huge on ESPN, and how you aren't a fan of it.. but then you reference rick reilly.. who is the main proponent of this. he hasn't reported a legit piece of journalism in years and is all about the fluff. doesn't make a whole lot of sense

the problem with espn is moreso that they think people actually care about personalities or people on the network - that people actually watch the network FOR these people rather than to watch the sports. Sure, people can be fans of certain anchors, but they are easily replaceable. ESPN cutting to "commercials" where they show what the anchors are doing during the breaks, that crap is hot garbage and is just terrible.

SVP leaving will have a big effect on the TV side but the damage would be most felt on the radio side which has been bleeding badly with the talent drain at the "Worldwide Leader". I mean Kenney's show was replaced by a show hosted by Mark Schlereth for cryin' out loud!

At least in the case of SVP there's a tailor made successor in Ryan Rusillo.
I have to ask. Did you read the link from awful announcing that Dayman posted? I had a deja vu feeling when I read your post before I realized it's because of that link saying the same thing in more words.

      Pretty eery if you didn't.

Instead of this hating on ESPN thing i'll post some pieces of work they've done lately I've loved.

        Jimmy Graham's Unlikely Path:
Rachel Nichols profiles Saints TE Jimmy Graham and his unlikely path to the NFL.

        Amazing article on Logan Morrison:

Since MSG decided to be greedy, I've been watching SNY (The Mets Network). Their stuff is usually good. When MSG was available, I loved watching Boomer (Esiason) and Carton. Boomer actually does his homework and has an extensive knowledge besides football.

1050 ESPN Radio has a great lineup starting at 6am. Mike and Mike, Cowherd, Ruocco and Lundberg, Mike Lupica, and Michael Kay. People hate on Kay for what he does on YES but I like him. Stephen A sometimes gets on the air too.

No, I read it to get a sense of the potential moves and kinda recapped it but used less words though they echo my sentiments exactly

As far as not bashing ESPN goes the 30 for 30 stuff has been very good and I loved this piece on E

I agree with those who mentioned 30 for 30 in this thread. That series is phenomenal. I own all of them besides the recent ones. ESPN knocks it out of the park with their original films and specials. I also enjoy ESPN live broadcasts. They are very good in college and pro football, MLB, NBA, and college basketball. I'm disappointed in what Sportscenter has become like many others, but by know people should know if you aren't a Cowboys, Lakers, Heat, Yankees, or Tebow fan Sportscenter isn't going to do much for you. I have been watching PTI and Around the Horn for years and still enjoy those programs.

I would be devastated if SVP left the network. I listen to the radio show everyday and has easily supplanted Rome as my favorite radio show. Him and Russilo are great together.

Same here, man. Easily my favorite show on radio.

The fact that SVP and Russillo are so clearly actually friends gives the show a whole different feel. It's just like 2 dudes sitting around shooting the **** about sports.

I'd also highly suggest the video mailbags on their website, if you haven't watched any of those. They're hilarious.

                      Re: Sports Media Discussion...

I only watch JRIB for the opening and closing burns. I have no interest in player/coach interviews and whenever they come on, no matter what the show is, I either mute the TV and do something else, or change the channel. The burns really crack me up though, it's that strong opinionated stuff I like to hear, whether I agree or disagree. Plus it kills me whenever he calls fans "honks".

I like Cowherd because he's a nut and trolls his own audience, and Beadle calls him out on it and usually points out his inconsistencies and exposes him, which is classic. I don't really care for the "BS meter" or the "Liar board" or the other gimmicks they use, but I give them credit for trying.

Been watching Around the Horn and PTI for years, love those shows as well, you get used to the personalities of the regulars and almost feel like you know them.

But that's where the talking heads belong, on sports talk shows. Not on sportscenter. There's no need to blend them together, keep them separate.

I basically don't even watch sportscenter anymore, for the same reasons as pointed out by others earlier in the thread. The ridiculous amount of overanalysis and focus on storylines. I want it to be like the sports section of a newspaper set to video. I want updates on league leaders, standings, and scores. Highlights like a mother****er. When they switched from half hour to an hour I was so ecstatic, yet somehow they managed to actually show FEWER highlights than before. A sad example of this was just this weekend when the Giants beat the Packers, and the first topic on sportscenter was a debate about whether or not Eli had eclipsed Peyton. Scores, highlights, stats, and snarky delivery are what made sportscenter my favorite show on TV. It's amazing to think I'm at the point where I change the channel now when it comes on.
