I’m 3 episodes into season 2 of Breaking Bad, it’s ok. The performances are great but so far it hasn’t done anything that would make me compare it to The Wire, Sopranos, Mad Men…honestly a few other shows. It just hasn’t hit that level yet, I’m going to keep watching because I’m sure it turns up eventually but this is just not it right now.

Breaking Bad didn't blow my mind the way it did for a lot of people but I do think it took 1 or 2 seasons to really find its groove.

I can't remember exactly what's happening by episode 3, but Walt goes deeper and deeper down the rabbit hole and it gets more compelling. He starts getting involved with some very serious people.

Were you guys rooting for anyone when you were watching it or was it just the plot was interesting?I think my problem is I don’t give a **** about Walt, like I just don’t care about his problems. Even when they were bad, I wanted Tony, Don Draper, the Barksdale org, The Jenningses from the Americans, etc. to win. I feel like I kinda like Jesse, everyone else is kinda meh. Except for Hank who I cannot stand lol.

Hank is nearly unbearable at the beginning. Honestly, maybe the sister in law was my favorite character early on because she had that Golden Girls energy going. Everyone else was either uninteresting or not likable enough to connect with. I've tried to go through the series several times and end up cutting out by the middle of season 2.

For me it was the start of S3 when it really started going. Keep plowing through. It'll be worth it in the end.

I was rooting for Walt. One of the interesting aspects of the Breaking Bad fanbase when the show was on is that Walt gets harder and harder to root for, yet many people stood by him. He was arguably worse than Tony Soprano. A lot of people came to really hate Skyler, though I did not.

Jesse goes through a lot and matures as the show goes on, so he might be a character to watch for. Hank becomes easier to root for as well. They tone down the smart aleck frat boy vibe quite a bit and he becomes quite likeable IMO.

Junior continues to enjoy breakfast throughout the series.

You hit the nail on the head though; if a show can't get you to care about the characters and their problems, it's not gonna work. I loved Mad Men when it was on, but I tried watching it again recently and couldn't get into it. They're all a bunch of very upper middle class people trying to sell products people don't need.

It'll hit that level (although Mad Men would only make my B+ list) starting with the last couple of episodes of season 2 introducing one of the great characters (and his great lieutenant) of all time.
                          Spoiler
IMO the show goes on steroids after that although I did like what you've watched so far better than you did. Try to get to that point-I doubt you'll be disappointed.

I was definitely rooting for Walt all the way but I even rooted for Ralphie (Sopranos) until

Yeah, that was the worst thing that ever happened on the Sopranos. Hard to watch even. Actually, the actress who played her was a guest on the Talking Sopranos podcast a while back. She quit acting and became a yoga instructor. She still looks great.
