Alien Earth on FX and HULKU is outstanding thru 4 episodes.

    America Primeval was incredible.

Watched episode one of the second season of Wednesday. Was forced......hope it gets better. I assume it will.

Watched the Sleepy Hollow(2013) series. We enjoyed the first 3 seasons. I enjoyed the first two more. We decided to skip the final season due to the main actress being written off at the end of third season and an obvious shift of story direction. It had a good couple of intial seasons. But, it's one of many series that go on a season or two too long. It reminds me of Once Upon a Time or even the initial Scrubs series where it went on a season too long and then go into a completely different direction

The Hunting Wives… if you like a little bit of drama mixed in with multiple lesbian sex scenes then you’ll enjoy this.

          MobLand on Paramount.

Guy Ritchie production with some powerhouses leading the show. Tom Hardy, Helen Mirren, Pierce Brosnon, the whole cast brings it. If you are into crime, gangster drama, this will be right up your alley.

Re: What's good to watch on Netflix And Other Streaming Platforms

I'm halfway through this premiere season of The Paper.
Let me preface this by saying that I'm a bit of an Office virgin. Don't get me wrong, I know every character by name and their quirks, I've seen several episodes, I know a lot of the throughlines for characters in the series, and I'm aware of many quotable and meme-able moments for the show. But I never did watch it through nor would I pop it on to entertain myself, either via streaming or if it was on TV (yes, I still have cable). Comedy shows for the most part aren't my thing. Not that I can't like them, but I just don't get into them like others.

Anyway, I thought I'd give The Paper a shot. Obviously people will be hesitant to see new characters, and I'm sure the online discourse is very against this show without giving it its fair due. After all, as I recall, the first season of The Office wasn't cracked up to be up to snuff with the best that was offered later, especially as you got to know the characters more (and with 20+ episode seasons at that).

The show is okay. Of the nine major roles, there are two characters so far that I haven't assigned much value or potential to. One character is someone who I verbally chastise, yet gives me the majority of the laughs. Ned and Mare work well together and have a good dynamic, and Chelsea Frei has funny "look at camera" ability like Jim would. We also get more Oscar.

But here is what I do like about the show, and call me out if I am misreading this about The Office. Since this show is about a newspaper, plots actually get to be spent around them covering stories and surviving in a space where newspapers are antiquated, and our lead (Domnhall Gleeson) is more or less the straight man where the other characters might be wacky or dumb. I like that the setting plays more of a role in the show and there is something more to work toward than just relationships or tomfoolery. This is what keeps me most engaged, and the comedy doesn't have to feel as manufactured.

I feel like The Office never really had them working, per se. I know, it's a company where they make paper, but that's where I think this new series gets an automatic leg up. It wasn't just a new backdrop, it provided purpose for storytelling.

I'm not trying to get deep or philosophical or anything here, but that immediately was something I could tangibly put on to why this show attracted me a little more than The Office ever could (despite the fact that show ultimately will probably be of higher quality in writing).

Let's see how the season finishes, and if this has any lasting appeal.

Re: What's good to watch on Netflix And Other Streaming Platforms

Really enjoyed season 2 of Wednesday. I waited until the both parts were out before watching. I understand why Netflix split it up like that, but when you only have 8 episodes in an entire season it's a pretty jerk move to split it up.

I know some people thought it was a little slow, and I get why people say that. I thought that it had good build up and personas.

Also, my wife and I both had the same reaction after finishing the season. It was really refreshing to not have a particular trope that plagued the first season and many other shows.

Really hate Netflix's series structure though. Wednesday season 1 came out almost 3 years ago, and now it's expected that season 3 will be a 2 year wait. It makes it really hard to maintain momentum with such long delays.

This used to be my must see thread, sure has been nearly abandoned.

Our rundown of enjoyable shows over the last year or so: Task, Landman, Stranger Things, Goliath, Bosch, Hunting Wives (that was my show From, Pitt, Fallout, Welcome to Derry, Man on the Inside, Severance, Shrinking, Your Friends and Neighbors...to name a few.

We are in the age of excellent productions created by the non-mainstream, or the new mainstream, however you'd like to look at it.

The Pitt is back. Life is good.

I was hit and miss on Welcome to Derry. Mostly hit with E1, and then E5 and onward it woke up some, but I have more of a hate relationship with television shows than I do love, especially when it comes to filler content and cheap production value (compared to that of movies). I can't say that IT Chapter 2 didn't have its own CGI issues and such, but it still had a theatrical runtime and felt like a big screen entry.

I think Matlock also returns this week from its holiday break.

TBH, Welcome to Derry was endured rather than enjoyed. Nothing but a milk job in my opinion. I commented to my daughter and son-in-law (who shared a similar reaction) that it was like watching another Stranger Things from a parallel universe. Probably not extremely accurate, but...

The Pitt is very good. I have to perform emotion calisthenics before each episode. When that soft music starts with the end credits appearing, my wife and I just sigh.

I thought it was pretty good and pushed the envelope more than other television today. That one firetruck episode was weird though.

I didn't watch that trailer I posted, by the way. I have no idea whether they'll continue down some form or another. I'd rather save it for when I first watch the show.

He has been climbing about fifteen minutes now. Anybody else watching?

My palms literally cannot stop sweating, and he is on the "easy" part of the climb. Besides harder climbing dynamics later, there is also a fatigue factor.

I suppose I shouldn't be so concerned after seeing him in Free Solo, but that was pre-recorded and we know he survived that.

I couldn’t have watched or anything. Height make me squimish, or the threat of sudden deceleration syndrome.

I know I'm way late to the party, but until last weekend I had never watched The Boys.
Binged the first season already, if only every superhero movie/tv show were this great.
It is the superhero show we both deserve AND need.
