Re: What's good to watch on Netflix
Almost finished watching Series of Unfortunate Events. I like the Netflix one more than the movie that came out in 2004. The Netflix one seems to cover over 95% of what was in the books. The secondary storyline in the show is real interesting one too, don't believe it's in the books or movie? As successful as they were, imagine if Harry Potter or Lord of the Rings/Hobbit series was first made in todays era. Meaning streaming services where they could devote an entire TV series to covering the books. Movies were great, but faced some criticism by hardcore fans who pointed out many things the movies cut from the books.
This is actually the first netflix series I've watched, and I can tell why it's addicting to watch things on netflix. 40+ minutes of nonstop show,no scenes setting up commercial breaks or anything. And I wanna watch episode after episode knowing that I can, but I also want to space it out so I don't just watch an entire series in a 2-3 day span. I'm tempted to watch the "season finale", but gonna hold off for a week.
Not to mention casting for the show itself was good too. Kids wise they didn't cast anyone known(most notable is the lead girl whose biggest role was playing younger Kara on CW/CBS Supergirl), but adult wise they got a good cast(Cobie Smulders,Neil Patrick Harris,Patrick Warburton,Will Arnett among others)
The name of Cobie Smulders character is funny to me given the last show she was on(spoilers on this show and BIG spoilers for HIMYM):
SpoilerShe was obviously on How I Met Your Mother. And funny enough, her character name on this show(for the time being) is simply "Mother". HIMYM basically ended with them finally showing how he met the mother, but then he just ends up with Robin.Last edited by Majingir; 03-05-2017, 01:12 AM.Comment

Re: What's good to watch on Netflix
I don't know how old you guys are, but I am 32, Chappelle's Show was like in my prime "end of high school, start of college, have a lot of fun" years and he was just an instant legend for me and all my friends. Some of the skits on that show I will remember for my whole life. Hilarious stuff.
The show was huge, everyone would talk about each episode all week. It was just a real huge pop culture success. The Wayne Brady skit, the Charlie Murphy stories, some others that I can't mention due to TOS, everyone was in on the jokes.
The way he walked away from 50 million, or whatever it was, and kept his life on his own terms, resonated with a lot of my friends (and myself) as well. I honestly never researched the full story on how and why that all went down.
Since that happened though, and the show was only 2 years, he kind of had that "mystic" feel like we never got to see everything and have been left always wanting more from him. His show never had the chance to "overstay its welcome" and that might end up being a good thing in the long run
For me, he's just one of those guys that I consider "The Man," and will always support anything he puts out
I loved Dave since the Def Jam comedy days and Half Baked. One of my favorite people in the world and was lucky to see his stand up. It never felt like a set watching him, just him up their talking and he was high as hell too.
He would troll every single person that got out of their seat to go to the bathroom. He had something for every heckler that was yelling out "Rick James bitch or YEAHHHHH"
He's an all time great to me and up there with Pryor, Carlin and Rock.Comment

Re: What's good to watch on Netflix
I'm definitely a fan. Some of the storylines and the way they play out are over-the-top, but that's to be expected with a show like this. Still, I like the way the stories build over the course of a season, and the dialogue for the most part is well-written.Currently Playing:

Saw the Billions pilot. Anything with Giamatti and I'm pretty much in (save for a Rhino costume ..... Win Win was great). Hope they keep the S&M angle down; it's just a weird side note on his life. I'll give it a few more.Comment

As for the S&M angleSpoilerit appears they are downplaying it.
EDIT: Just renewed for season three.Last edited by JayBee74; 03-08-2017, 06:28 PM.Comment

Re: What's good to watch on Netflix
I'm SUPER late to the game when watching this particular series...but damn...I'm glad I started! Better late than never!
ARROW! I have watched the first half of Season 1....and man....this series is AMAZING!
And I swear....Although its 1080p....the PQ is awesome! Sometimes I feel like I'm watching a 4K broadcast!
On another note...I watched the first episode of Flash and was just not as impressed although everyone sings its praises...For all of you out there that have been watching Flash series...does it pick up after the first episode? I guess I was spoiled by how freakin' action packed Arrow was from the start!
Other shows that are on my AWESOME list:
Chef's Table (Awesome stories about each chef's journey and in 4K!)
Last Chance U (Always have loved these types of documentaries and in 4K!)
Look forward to starting:
Marco Polo
Luke Cage
Jessica Jones
Stranger ThingsLast edited by PhiPsi1; 03-08-2017, 11:30 PM.Comment

The most intriguing character by far is Giamatti's. Most everyone else is just a scumbag deep down, but he is clearly torn.Comment

Flash is good too. S2 of arrow I'd rank above all flash seasons, but s1-3 of flash I'd rank better than s3-5 of arrow (since s1 of flash began during s3 of arrow).
I started late too so one bit of advice in watching flash, don't watch arrow crossover episodes of flash until you've seen the arrow episodes up to that point because it does spoil some big moments, specifically one late in s2 of arrow and one early in s3.Comment

Re: What's good to watch on Netflix
Finished watching Series of unfortunate events. Now it sucks realizing no new episodes till late 2017-early 2018? As much as I hate network tv schedules at times, at least season stretch out and longest wait is 4 months between season. Waiting close to a year for new Netflix episodes? Too long.
Back to the series though, talk about the ultimate swerve when (Major finale spoiler)SpoilerThe parents walk through the door!Last edited by Majingir; 03-11-2017, 12:48 AM.Comment

Re: What's good to watch on Netflix
Arrow has lots of great suspenseful moments early on. IMO, season 2 is the best and s1 is second best.
