Without Simon there, I tend to FF through the judges responses, lol.

When their performances lacked quality, Simon put them in their place and it helped (from what I saw) because they fed off his criticism and improved for the most part.

Anyway, I'm surprised it took so long for the judges to point out (Randy mentioned it last night) that Phil Phillips is a Dave Matthews clone - I swear, his mannerisms on stage mimic that of Dave Matthews to a freakin' T!

Love DM so count me in as a Phil Phillips fan!

Also a fan of Heejun Han - how could you not root for this guy? Great talent and a complete crack up, lol! Always wondering what he's gonna say next...

I think Phillips will be in trouble when he can't use his guitar. He looked really uncomfortable during group week without it.

I'm rooting for Heejun Han. He's got a charming personality and great voice. He has an uphill battle though because history shows the AI voters prefer a younger white male (even better if he plays the guitar) to win.

Jessica sanchez killed it. Pretty disappointed that the judges didn't bring back david leathers jr. I thought most of the guys were not very good and would have been one of the top 12.

Jimmy needs to be a judge. He has no problem cutting down the contestants if they deserve it.

I'm going to bet a couple of dollars on a few singers. I don't think Elise, DeAndre, Erika, and Jeremy have a chance at winning. I like Phillip Phillips but not at those odds and I could see him slipping in a week where he can't/doesn't play the guitar. I think there's value in Heejun and Jessica right now. I'm just worried that the voting public has a trend of picking young white male singers. I also think Skylar has a good shot to go far based on the voting from last season.

At this point, I'm leaning towards putting $3 each on Heejun, Jessica, and Skylar.

I would like jimmy to be a judge but I think he's valuable in mentoring them. He made a lot good suggestions to them.

BTW Jessica Sanchez seems to be the favorite right now. She is great, i think she has a shot to actually make it for real.

I agree. He's a great singer but it will be interesting to see how he does out of his comfort zone without the guitar.

The odds have changed after this week but I was able to get Skylar when she was 10/1 (she's now 6/1 to win) and Heejun at 12/1 (he's currently 15/1).

Outside of Jimmy's comments about Heejun and Colton, he was spot on. He made a great point about Phillip. He's doing good but some of the girls have the vocal fireworks which is something he lacks. Despite being a favorite of the judges, I think Joshua Ledet is going to be a shocking (to the audience and the judges) early boot. I'll go on record right now and predict he won't be in the Top 7. I thought the judges did a much better job of giving better feedback this week.

While I thought Jessica was good, I didn't think it was great. She bailed out on a note about a minute into the song.

How did Jermaine Jones pass the background check? He had 4 outstanding warrants. I didn't buy his version of the story. He wouldn't be facing all of those charges if it was a minor incident.

It looks like Heejun has a very strong fanbase. He wasn't good last week and he still wasn't in the bottom 3.

Heejun really got on Steven's nerves last night. His vocal performance was terrible but at least he had fun.

I have no idea why Diddy is giving out singing advice.

Once again Jimmy is spot on with DeAndre. I'm glad he called out Randy, Steven, and Jennifer for praising his horrible performance.

I'm still sticking with Phillip as my winner. Oh yeah J-Lo looks fantastic.

I been to a lot of concerts in my 44 years Luther Vandross, Patti Labelle, Sade, John Legend to name a few and nothing can come close to what this guy did with that song. Well maybe when Luther sung " A house is not a home". Lol

What the hell is up with the judges eliminating Johnny Keyser for the second straight year in a row? First, last year they decided to bring back that sucky singing criminal Jermaine Jones instead of him, then during sudden death round they decidedly took him out over that geeky ginger boy and a split decision that Jimmy Iovine put through. I still don't know what would have happened if he didn't put that karaoke singer through the sudden death round, but Johnny is definitely getting the short end of the stick here.

I still have favorites this year, but knocking off Keyser is not helping. I think they're afraid of having normal people on the show or something after normal Phillip Phillips won last year, as if diversity is a mandatory item.

EDIT: Wow, I just looked back at this thread, and a few pages up I realized I posted about Keyser last year. That's kind of weird.

Though it's Season 13 in the Season 11 thread...

One episode in, and it's probably the best it's been since Season 5. Or Season 2. Or ever. I think the producers kind of got everything right this time, especially with the judges. Harry Connick Jr. is just perfect, and Jennifer Lopez coming back is twice as good as Nicki Minaj and Mariah Carey put together.

Welp, American Idol is now over. And the right person won the final season. Great bookend.

Also, whether or not you're into this show, the two hour episode was well-produced, getting a lot of singers in the end. And wow, it really shows how many really good singers came through these fifteen seasons.

Say what you want, but I'll miss this show. I'm sure it will come back in some form, though. Obviously it spawned a whole new wave of singing/dancing/cooking/talent shows, but AI still has a staple that no other does, namely (for me) Ryan Seacrest.
