    Alien (all)
    The Godfather (all)
    Apocolypse Now
    2001: A Space Odyssey
    Platoon
    The Deer Hunter
    Terminator 2 and 3
    Die Hard (all)
    Lethal Weapon (all)

... and about 75% of anything pre-1970 you'd consider famous.

I'll just go with ones already mentioned....

      The Godfather series
      Titanic
      Passion of the Christ
      Scarface
      Good Will Hunting
      The Deer Hunter
      2001: A Space Odyssey
      Harry Potter series
      Twilight series

I actually started Scarface and The Godfather but gave up on both pretty quickly.

I guess I just picked directors pre-1980s and followed through on their films because I own most of Kubrick and Coppola's stuff. Hitchcock is always a lock, as well. Anything Orson Welles was in is also on my radar.

I wish I never watched The Passion of the Christ, it's just modern horror torture porn for religious folks. I want my $10 back.

As for big movies I've never seen:

          Citizen Kane
          Dr. Strangelove
          Gone with the Wind
The Oceans Series (does this count)
Twilight (I can't believe that this would count)
The Deer Hunter (what is this even about?)
          Taxi Driver

There are so many "classic" films I have watched that I hate, however, so the odds of me watching the above are slim. I was suckered in to watching Scarface with Al Pacino as I was on a big gangster fix at the time and man, does that movie blow (literally, LOL).

Citizen Kane is an excellent timepiece, and unlike many movies is very direct and coherent from beginning to end (with a pretty good "twist," I might add). It may get a bit boring, but I do think it's something most people should give themselves an opportunity to see once in their lives.

You also might want to give Ocean's Eleven a chance. I remember dismissing it for so long, until 2007 I popped in my roommate's DVD. It was just so cool, and so entertaining. A heist movie that doesn't need to be flashy with multiple explosions and gunfire, cuss words left and right, and it even has Don Cheadle speaking in a British accent! What more could you want?

Haha anyway, I've always loved that trilogy. Twelve fell very much in love with its own lingo, music, and scene transitions that it forgot an easily relatable city and target were all that was needed for it. I think Ocean's Thirteen redeemed itself in ways, but went more for a Blockbuster appeal than anything else. Nevertheless, O11 is one of my favorite movies.

It's shocking to see how many people haven't watched some of the best movies ever. I guess I expected more, even though this is predominantly a sports and video game site.

I just watched, No Country for Old Men today, and I absolutely loved it. Why the hell haven't I gotten around to seeing it till now? It's just my kind of movie, and Tommie Lee Jones was terrific in it too.

I tend to watch a lot of B-movies, as well as independent films, although I tend to watch a lot of mainstream films if their plot is interesting to my taste.

You should try to get your money back, even though Stan and Kyle didn't have much success at it, you have to have better luck then those two, one would think.

How is this possible?! And you've seen a Terminator, just not 2?!

Why would you put time and effort into watching the first and not watch a significantly better sequel?!

                    Confusing.

Last I checked, it was on Netflix Instant Watch. It's definitely worth the watch, even if you're about to go to bed. You won't fall asleep.

Just to narrow it down, from the AFI 100 years...100 movies list (either version) that I would like to see:

                          Fargo
                          Citizen Kane
                          The Godfather (all of them)
                          Casablanca
                          Raging Bull
                          Gone with the Wind
                          Lawrence of Arabia (2nd half)
                          Schindler's List
                          Apocalypse Now
                          Dr. Strangelove
                          Taxi Driver
                          Raiders of the Lost Ark
                          A Clockwork Orange
                          The Shawshank Redemption
                          Platoon
                          Pulp Fiction

I wouldn't call it significantly better. When the main protagonist is a snot-nosed brat that is basically repulsive, yet is the supposed savior of humanity is what usually keeps me from popping that film in. Still a good film, but I don't think its as great as people make it out to be. I prefer the Abyss and Aliens as far as Cameron goes.

Well I don't usually watch current releases unless they're really up my wheelhouse though that's definitely changed what with my relationship right now. Anyways here are a couple HUGE franchises I haven't seen:

                              LOTR
                              Matrix movies

I have ZERO interest in the Matrix movies but I think i'll EVENTUALLY at some point watch the LOTR films.

Couldn't have said it better. While I do still enjoy T2, the original Terminator will always be the superior film to me. Cameron totally ripped off Harlan Ellison (one of the best writers of the last century) to come up with the story but it is still fantastic, even moreso now that Ellison is properly credited in those films.
