I would have to agree with this, and I don't see it justifiable to make tongue in cheek remarks connecting his fictitous characters to his failed suicide attempt.

A year ago this past Christmas one of my Dad's friends shot himself in the head through the mouth. Amazingly enough, he actually survived the shooting. The bullet was a clean shot that exited basically between the eyes right above the bridge of his nose. Apart from some cosmetic surgery and some loss of taste and smell, he is doing great now. At the time, he was a heavy drinker and was taking anti-depressants as prescribed by his doctor. He obviously regrets what he did and is now alcohol free, but its crazy to think that one could do that to themselves and still survive with relatively minor injuries.

So if someone is a drug user and alcoholic, but an "icon," it's not okay. If someone has a debilitating illness that has robbed them of leg functions, but is a nobody, it's okay. Got it.

(I'm not saying it's not okay to crack jokes, just considering the irony in it all.)

I don't think people are joking about the situation, but are making jokes about his character on Seinfeld and connecting it to some of the bits that Seinfeld is famous for, one of them being suicide. It is a serious situation and I hope he does well and gets help.

That's pretty much what I took the jokes to mean. They're jokes about fictional character Mr. Kruger. And as a guy who both loves Seinfeld and believes any topic is fair game for jokes, this topic has provided some laughs.

As for the man himself, hopefully this failed attempt gives him a different perspective on his life when he recovers.
