I agree with pretty much all of this. I understand not having time to introduce and develop all the minor characters like Jacelyn Bywater, I'm not sure I like Bronn having that job. Oh well I need to give them some leeway I suppose and try to understand the vision HBO has. But many I'm not liking it right now.

Why is Asha not Asha anymore? Now that one I do not get.

Because they were worried that its too close to Osha and it might confuse people.

I see. However, if you can't figure out the difference between the two you are hopeless in keeping track of the other 100 characters this show has.

Changing Asha's name to Yara seems pretty pointless to me. I don't think anybody was going to get Asha and Osha confused.

For people who haven't read the books, I think the next few episodes could be slow. There is a lot of buildup in Clash of Kings.

Right, because the characters look so much alike and will share so much screen time...

I know why they are doing some of the changes, like Bronn, and cutting a cast of hundreds in the book to dozens for the show means things like that will happen, I just want the show to hew close to books, wishful thinking I know. I totally forgot the Craster scene last night, but did they really have to spell it out to us why Gilly was afraid and show an infant son being taken by an Other?

As a person who hasnt read the books, I'm thankful for all of it. Its difficult enough to keep track of the names and I find myself having to constantly rewind and rewatch to get it straight. I'm used to a certain level of concentration when watching HBO shows (I pretty much watch them all from Deadwood and The Wire to Luck and Treme) but skewing exactly like the books would require too much in my opinion.

The point of the tv show is primarily for people who havent read or dont want to read the books and to make the show as easy to watch as possible without completely changing the storyline of each book. If it takes changing a name or two or leaving out a character or two to make that happen....im fine with that.

Re: Game of Thrones Season 2 (aka A Clash of Kings)

As someone who hasn't read ACoK, I've liked the first two episodes so far. Though the 2nd DID feel a bit dragging compared to the 1st. I read GoT after the first season and I enjoyed it just as much simply because of discovering what's different and the book providing more detail that the show couldn't. I suspect I'll have the same experience once I read ACoK.

                      As for the episode...

                      - I really liked Tyrion taking charge and getting rid of Janos Slynt. He certainly knows how to play the game, but I feel like he's got a bit of Stark goodness in him. Plus, he's always quotable.

                      - GHOST! I always like seeing the direwolves and he's clearly grown as well.

                      - "Now try smiling with your mouth closed." Theon's horseride with Yara/Asha was hilarious too. I already suspected that was his sister, so the reveal made it even more hilarious.

                      - Arya is always awesome and now, this Arya/Gendry friendship is growing on me. While he may not realize it yet, it's only fitting that a Baratheon is becoming good friends with a Stark.

                      - Melisandre

                      - So, what's up with Craster giving up the baby (boy, I presume) to the Whitewalker?

                      Can't wait for next week!

Yeah they weren't giving the audience much credit when they made that decision.

Pretty sure the idea is that he gives them his boys in exchange for them not attacking his camp and letting him be.

I disagree with this line of thought, unlike the sopranos, the wire, EB&D etc. Which generated their fan bases based off the show. GoT, had a huge following based off the book. It's IMO a rare cases where the show should stay as true to the books as possible. I'm by no means a fantasy genre fan, but I am reading the books and they are amazing, well written and can pull you in. I can only imagine how true fans feel about this episode but I didn't like any of the changes even if I understand why they made them.
