Hey any chance you guys could do me a favor. My friend is looking to get into PC gaming and is looking to spend 6-8 hundred. Can anyone see what they can throw together? Monitor isnt necessary atm. Either parts to build or an already built one at a good price.

He wants it for mainly PC gamepass (Halo Infinite, etc) and some steam games (Rocket League, Path of Exile, Diablo 4)

Re: Official "I want to build a New PC!" Thread

Should be moving into the new house next week. Gotta buy a few pieces of furniture as well as a few other items, but it looks like I'll have the money to basically have a new build this fall/winter.

Going 9900k or 10700k. Considering the 10700ks are so cheap for their power I'm thinking I'll go with that.

I just went to 32gb of ram this past year.

Going to buy another SSD because my two currents are only 500gb each. Gonna snag up either a 1TB or potentially a 2TB.

The big decision is when the 3000 cards finally are announced/released do I go with one of them or will 2000 series cards drop in price enough to make them the smarter choice.

My 1070 ti has been great, but it struggles at 1440p a bit the older it gets. I'm thinking a 2080 ti would be more than fine if their prices come down quite a bit when the 3000 series becomes real, but I also know the 3000 series cards are supposed to be more affordable, or at least not ridiculously priced. But are those 3000 cards basically going to go for $2,000 like a 2080 ti does now because people will buy them up to resell them?

Hopefully pieces are easier to find for you in the Fall/Winter than they were for me 6 weeks ago.

I hope so. At the moment it looks like the SSDs and CPU are in stock, but I'm sure when the 3000 cards are coming that they'll be in short supply and then the people jumping on the 2000 cards will keep them in short supply as well. Oh well, I'll probably buy the SSD soon, then the CPU, then make a decision on the GPU choice as the year gets closer to being over with.

3000 series the higher end releasing in September, the mid tier in October and lower end in November. That is the latest rumor anyway.

Going to attempt my first ever PC build.

My oldest is obsessed with streaming so I'm going to use that as a reason to justify building a rig (nevermind the fact that I have wanted to for a little while now).

What's the first thing you all buy?

Is it based on price like say a good deal or is there one piece that's basically your foundation in which you build around?

Thanks for the links FT! Gonna check it out

Re: Official "I want to build a New PC!" Thread

Build around your budget. Then buy the CPU that will meet your current need and any future need that you might have. Motherboard to support said CPU and decide if you will overclock or not. If you will never overclock, no need to over spend on a board filled with features you will never use. Finally decide on a GPU. GPU is the easiest thing in a computer to upgrade. So you can buy a mid range card now if money is tight and upgrade to high end card later down the road. Power supply, shoot for at least 750 watts, the high end cards draw a lot of power.

I'm just waiting on the new 3000 cards. Everything else has been upgraded in my PC (motherboard, CPU plus water cooler, ram, m.2 drive, case, PS). Still rocking the 1080ti and it's doing it's job just fine but I've been itching for these 3000 cards. I held off on 2000 cards, which I don't usually do, but I'm for sure going after the 3000. I already have a buyer lined of for my 1080ti too so that's nice. Can't wait.

Well, Newegg had a sale that was close to ending, and even though it wasn't a huge sale, I still bit on it. So step 1, or step 2 if you count my RAM purchase earlier this year, is done for my rebuild and my 10700k is on the way.

In the coming weeks I'll get the motherboard and new SSD, then it's just waiting on the 3000 series cards.

With a 10700k, 32gb of RAM, 3 TB of SSD space, and a 3000 series card, I don't think that computer will need to be upgraded for a bit. I'm excited to eventually put it all together and to boot it up. I might even buy a new case and really make it feel like a new PC.

I still have my old RAM and a practically all of my parts from past builds, and my plan is to probably run two builds, the new one that is being bought in pieces now, and then basically my current build with the RAM I used to have. My buddies and I play a decent amount of games that would benefit from a dedicated server, so I'm going to mostly use my old build as a server when we play those games and then leave it off most other times.

Well I needed an new laptop, never been a PC gamer like that, I pulled the trigger in this, it’s not for just for gaming, but think gaming will be a huge plus.
