Like I said, I know plenty will be against it, but I was basically paying a premium for convenience and getting it now. I had a limit I was going to pay. I'm not going to pay $1,500 for a marked up 3080, but if it's only going to cost me an extra hundred or two, like it did, then I saw it worth it, personally.

I personally think my time was worth more than a couple hundred bucks, so I would rather pay that for the card now rather than wait potentially months down the road. The supply could ramp up and make me look dumb a month from now, but scalpers were going to be out there regardless of my purchase. Someone else would have bought the card if I didn't. The responsibility to stop the bots to slow the scalping lies with these companies. While I think scalpers are crappy people for the most part, all of these companies that do the minimum to prevent it from being a problem are where the issue truly lies, imo.

Nothing wrong with what Canes did, it’s part of the game and it’s always been like this for high demand products.

I understand his time is valuable and if he wants it now you pay for it. Like here in the Philippines, retailers are marking up the cards 100 to 200 dollars right now.

If you don’t have the money or don’t want to spend higher than retail then wait, what’s the big deal getting one a couple months from now especially when there’s a good chance after the holidays you can get one.

It’s like people are in a rush to be first to experience it when they have a capable card right now or can get a 2080ti for cheap if they are desperate for a card.

You’re right maybe I was too harsh. My bad Cane.. I just hate what these scalpers are doing. It’s because of them we’re in this mess. I personally wouldn’t pay extra but I can somewhat understand why one would pay more if they really want something. These cards will start becoming more available as time passes.

Nothing wrong with what Canes did, it’s part of the game and it’s always been like this for high demand products.

This is my take. I use to be that guy who was impatient and needed the new thing right away. Now, not so much. I'll be just fine with my 1080ti until I can get a 3090 at retail. If it's tomorrow cool. If it's in a few months cool.

Don't get me wrong I hate scalpers with a passion but it's part of life. They will always be there no matter what.

I’m sitting thinking I need to upgrade my i7 7700k but this vid shows it’s still a beast for gaming with a 3080. I already have it Oc to 5gz so I think I’m good for a little while longer. Just need to get my hands on a 3080.

Not sure if you guys have checked benchmarks of the 3090 but you would be absolutely crazy to buy it for gaming. Anything under 4K is an absolute waste and even at 4K, it’s still not worth double the price, not even close.

I see people keep talking how they want the 3090 but I’m legit curious if you are aware of what you’re actually buying. It’s not always best just to buy the “top” card that is released.

Also if you are getting a 3070 or higher, make sure you are on at least 1440p. Or a very very high refresh rated 1080p.

3090 benchmarks were definitely eye opening. If I did more rendering in Blender and was a content creator, it may be worth it, but I basically model every now and then for fun, so a 3080 will do more than a good enough job.

Yeah if you’re a content creator it would be great but I totally agree with you. Seems like people are getting it to flex which is silly to me.

Yeah I'm less likely to get it, but not ruling it out. At any point I'm not only gaming but watching something on another screen and casting a tab that is transcoding video to a Chromecast for the kids. Then toss in streaming and other things that the graphics card can help with and it becomes a little easier to justify... but just a little, lol.

Covid is causing this in a lot of things and thought I would share this because I think it's nuts,

So I collect and sell sports cards. Any other year there's nothing stopping you from going into a shop or grabbing some cards at Walmart. But this year is crazy. Hobby boxes of every new set that comes out (Which is basically every week) for any sport is selling for double, or even triple on eBay. Retail cards, like cards from Walmart and Target are constantly sold out because people have gotten wise to the day and time the person comes to stock the cards, which is once a week. People show up and just buy everything as soon as it's on the shelf. They then list it all on eBay for at least double.

There was literally a fight between two guys at my Walmart when the guy came to stock the cards over who was gonna buy them all. They were both arrested. It's that crazy.

I'll admit I've payed over retail a hand full of times this year for some retail and a couple hobby boxes on eBay. When you are into cards the urge to not get them is honestly too great to resist. It literally can be an addiction. And not happy to say I was once addicted to them But I actually did get lucky and pulled a card selling for around $500, so that made up for it.

I know. I saw a lot that were listed around $1,200-$1,300 that were also accepting the best offer. A few of them I put in offers up to $900. Seems the sellers had the ability to have the site automatically decline offers below a certain amount as that kept happening. Then I finally struck gold and found one a few pages deep that was sitting right there as a buy now price in my budget with free shipping and everything.

It honestly didn't feel like the guy was a scalper with how he wasn't charging an arm and a leg to get the card. I didn't really want to go the route I did go, buying it secondhand, even if it is not used at all, because I didn't want to help the scalpers out, but when it was at the amount I wanted and the guy had a decade plus of 100% reviews, I figured why not. The little bit extra I paid was worth less than my time in my eyes. It is no different to me than paying a couple hundred bucks more to get a pass that allows you to skip lines at an amusement park except for the fact that I'll be getting a lot more hours out of the card than I would ever get at an amusement park.

Anyways, I guess karma hit me today for buying from a potential scalper as I went to track the package and saw that today it was sent to the wrong city a few hours away, so I likely won't get the card til Wednesday, but I don't care because that's the day the rest of my parts come in. I'm supposed to close on my new house Wednesday, so I'll likely hold off on building the PC until in the new house unless we end up pushing the closing back(it's been a nightmare buying experience, had to get attorneys involved because the sellers are clueless as to how contracts work). If we don't get the house this week, then that PC is getting built and I am taking Red Dead and Flight Sim for a spin as soon as I can.

Leaning towards sticking with my 2700x rig instead of a rebuild around a 3080/3090, and instead invest in a monitor like the 32:9 Odyssey and might get a Secretlab Titan chair.

Ooh wee, that Ryzen 5000 series looks scrumptious. And more Radeon 6000 details in a couple weeks. Putting the wife on new build alert. Can't wait to destroy YouTube.
