Newegg adding a bunch of stock this very minute. You can use this link and it'll add any 3080 into your cart if available.

Any ssd will be a drastic improvement over hdd. I'm not familiar with Canadian prices but you can find 500gb ssds for about 55-60USD. Since you're coming from 160gb hdd maybe you don't need as much space though. At least for me, 240gb is going to be used up quickly

Would this be a suitable replacement and make it drastically faster?

I'm upgrading a family members laptop. 240gb should be enough. If they ever need more, guess they could upgrade further or get external drive. Most of space taken up is by pics.

I'm mainly just hoping that's the right kind. SATA 2.5 I think is the one it has now.

$40 for 240GB and around $70 for 500gb. So might as well get 240gb.

You will definitely see an improvement in performance with the SSD. How much of a performance boosts depends on just how old that macbook is.

For reference though. My brother is a mac guy, a few years ago he swapped in a SSD into his old (at the time) macbook pro, and he reported a much better experience after installing the SSD.

I'm patiently waiting on the 3070 launch in October. I don't plan on playing games at 1440p or 4K so the 3080 is literally just wasted money.

At 1080p, the 3070 is as well being honest. A lot better options for 1080p for the price.

So thanks to everyone who commented on my computer issue a few pages back. I ended up bringing it to the guy who built it for me and changed the cables and rewired everything correctly. I also had him put in all brand new fans, Now I have five fans. All controllable RGB with a remote.

I'm not the one to go to with deep knowledge of graphics cards. But I also just play in 1080p on an ASUS IPS display, and when I was searching for a new card to replace my RX 580 I found that a ton of reviews and articles recommended the RX 5600XT. It's said to be the ultimate 1080p card and it's right around $275. I can play almost every game on high settings and get great frame rates. I even get 25-40 fps in Flight Sim 2020. I get over 100 sometimes in Madden and near that in GTA V.

I got the Sapphire version, which seems to be the best. It will also do 1440p at a loss of some frames. But it can still do it. And with a bios update it makes it basically as powerful as the more expensive 5700.

                      Just a suggestion.

I know some will disagree with it, especially the reddit crowd, but I bought a card off of a scalper. I didn't feel like my time was worth less than the $200 more I'm paying to cut out the work needed to get a card right now.

We will see within the next week what I get, but the guy had legit pictures verifying he had the card and he has 10 years of history with 100% rating, so I figured why not, especially with how willing ebay is to give you your money back these days.

I've got a new empty build waiting on a GPU and I'm not about the constant F5 life. This release has been handled poorly and I'm fortunate enough to have a career that allows me to pay a small premium to bypass all of the headaches involved with getting a card right now.

You’re the reason why scalpers thrive. Everyday couple of days cards are coming out. You’re not about that F5 constant life but you’ll overpay and contribute to a group that has ruined this entire experience for everyone else smh.. If cards weren’t going to be available until 2021 I’d understand but not when cards seem to be popping up every couple of days.

That’s why scalpers exist. Always someone willing to pay above and beyond. It is what it is. If literally no one bought marked up prices, scalping would not exist. However, that'll never happen.. people cannot wait.

That’s extremely harsh on canes man.

As someone who’s heavily invested into the sneaker game this isn’t anything new. Bots and intentionally low supply have been contributing to this 2nd market for YEARS. I’m new to building PCs but after seeing the outrage on Twitter about folks not being able to get a new card on release speaks more to NVIDIA than it does to someone who’s basically paying for “convenience”.

Now I don’t know enough about NVIDIA to know whether or not they intentionally limited supply to create hype or there were general productions delays (maybe because of COVID [emoji2375]) but to single out one person who paid over retail and tell them they are the reason is a little misguided IMO.

You’re right maybe I was too harsh. My bad Cane.. I just hate what these scalpers are doing. It’s because of them we’re in this mess. I personally wouldn’t pay extra but I can somewhat understand why one would pay more if they really want something. These cards will start becoming more available as time passes.
