With your current board your options are very limited. So first, try your extra RAM and see if that helps the crashing issues. If the stick you want to add doesn't match what is inside(mix n matching RAM is a bad idea), try finding a matching stick of either online. That's likely the cheapest route. If that doesn't work out, look for a used GPU upgrade like TheBleedingRed & KSUowls suggested. 1060 or rx 580 are good options. Don't go for anything under 4GB VRAM(6-8GB is where you ideally want to be but 4 is fine).

I know $300 doesn't sound like a lot but you could get a Ryzen 2600, a micro-ATX motherboard and 16GB DRR4 RAM for that which would be a significant improvement over your current components. Even less if you can find the parts used. But definitely try the RAM and GPU suggestions first before committing to a complete overhaul like that.

      I'm thinking about getting a 4k monitor (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...=ATVPDKIKX0DER) for 185$. Currently have a https://www.cnet.com/reviews/samsung...series-review/

I have a Nvidia Geforce GTX 1060 3 GB with a i5-2500k. Would I be able to play Madden, Battlefield, others in 4k or does my card not have enough juice to support that?

      Thanks!

Absolutely not at 4k at any sort of playable level. 4K gaming requires a beast of a PC.

No i'm sorry. You'll need IMO atleast a 1080 (personally min is a 1080ti), i7 processor and 16 gb of ram.

Building my brother a pc. First time I'll be dealing with a radiator and rgb fans so the cable management will be interesting. Gave him my evga 3080 as I was able to secure an Asus tuf 3080PXL_20201115_002125320.jpeg

Thanks, you just saved me some money. Is there any monitor out there to give me a decent upgrade in graphics or should I just stick with the one I have now?

Oh absolutely. If 200 bucks was your budget you can get an Asus VG248QG which is a 165hz g sync .5 ms monitor. As long as there’s a display port on your card you would be good to go and definitely will look and playing smoother than your current monitor which is a 11 year old tn monitor.

But if 200 is over what you want to spend you still have a lot of great options from Acer, Benq NDA other Asus options

Thanks! So basically I'm just looking for a high refresh rate and low response time, anything else? It's obviously been awhile!

Since you have a nvidia card, G-sync would be nice to keep from screen tear but that makes the price go up on the monitor. Personally i would stick with a VA ( good contrast and fast response time) or a IPS (best color but most expensive) panel. Personally I'm getting a new TN monitor for my console setup which are the fastest response time panels but the colors aren't as good as VA and IPS.

Thanks, I appreciate your input. I don't have the time to go down the monitor rabbit hole so you just saved me time and money. I'll look into some of these that you suggested.

I think I'm going to try the extra 8GB of memory and see if that helps. I bought the same type of stick for $40 on Amazon. Thanks for the advice.

An AMD 580 (or Nvidia 1060 gtx if you can find one discounted) should be within your budget and offer a noticeable improvement.

Trobinson might have more ideas though.

I have the fan to fan cables connected to daisy chain them and then used the fan to accessory to plug into the led strip. The led strip lights up but the fans don't

Any help for someone that would prefer to buy a pre-built machine rather than build a custom one?

Budget of $500-$1K. I don't plan on gaming with it but would prefer a higher tiered processor with the volume of financials I deal with.
