Re: Official "I want to build a New PC!" Thread
I got the 3090 Founders edition and did not like the way the pci cables connected to it and the terrible coil whine. But the reason I got lucky is that I had a 750 psu along with an i9 10900k which the recommended PSU is 850watts.
The card did not start after a few hours and i thought it fried or something so i put my old gpu back which is 2080ti and it works but not the 3090FE
So I went to Microcenter yesterday to buy a PSU of 1000watts and when talking to the employee he told me that we have the Asus Strix 3090 that just came in. They got 2 only. There I was thinking damm that is the card I always wanted. I bought it and said if the 1000watt psu fixes my 3090 issue I will just sell it and keep the Asus card.
Got home and the new PSU did not fix the 3090FE. I was mad because I bought it from CL so I was out of the money which was 1700 that I paid for it and no warranty from second hand purchase.
I sat there on my desk super upset. So I decided to try and reconnect the terrible pci extension the FE comes with and I noticed that when I flipped the connectors they went in much easier as before it was hard to plug it in. So I connected it again and it worked. So happy and I had a buyer already for it for 1800 and he came and bought it and i was able to make 100 profit on it and get the card I wanted from MicroCenter and then sold my 2080ti for 600 last night so I am super happy.
The card runs great and am gaming at 240fps at 1440p for modern warfare, madden 21, 2k21 etc etc ultra settingsComment

Re: Official "I want to build a New PC!" Thread
Ryzen 5000 series launch day. AMD actually did it. They are on par with Intel and in some games, better then Intel.

For now at least, we'll see what kind of response they have if they have one. Maybe this will spark some innovation from them finally. You love to see it.
Had a 5800X in the cart this morning but it was sold out by the time I got to check out. Still managed a 5600X tho and it's on the way along with some binned RAM while I decide on a mobo. Hope I can get lucky with the 6000 series release too.PS: You guys are great.

5600X Review:

TL;DW:
- Beats even Intel's 10900K in most games(pretty much all except RDR2) for half the price. ($300 vs $600)
- Draws less power than previous gen
- Best bang for buck, mainstream CPU
- Best Gaming CPU (again, except for RDR2)
Kinda glad I got "stuck" with it instead of the 5800X now.PS: You guys are great.

Next build may very well be an AMD. You guys here about the boost that a 5000 series CPU and 6000 GPU may potentially get? Very smart.

Re: Official "I want to build a New PC!" Thread
So this is my old gaming PC I'm looking to update. I don't want to pour a ton of money into it since my wife is the main gamer on it. She plays games that don't require any up to date stuff, but I'd like to improve a bit on it. Planet Zoo is the newest game she plays a lot, but it will crash sometimes if you run everything at the highest settings and the fans run all the time even when playing in mid level settings. I probably need to get some canned air an blow it out since it's in our basement.
I have 8 more gigs of DDR3 RAM I can put into it. Wouldn't mind maybe upgrading the graphics card a bit but wasn't sure if that means a new motherboard as well. Any suggestions to make this build a little bit better without starting over?

Re: Official "I want to build a New PC!" Thread
You don't need a new motherboard to upgrade the graphics card (which along with the RAM is pretty much your only upgrade path) but I would definitely recommend you do. You didn't list the CPU but I can guess it's either a Phenom or FX and you would need a new MOBO to upgrade that and go from ddr3 to ddr4 RAM. How much are you willing to spend? I can make better suggestions with a number to shoot for.PS: You guys are great.

CPU is AMD FD6300WMHKBOX FX-6300 6-Core Processor Black Edition.
Only really want to put $200-$300 into it. I know that isn’t going to give me much to work with.GT: Herkyalert

Re: Official "I want to build a New PC!" Thread
My guess is that the game is crashing due to memory shortage as 8gb is the minimum required for Planet Zoo. If that's the case then increasing your ram to 16gb should do a lot for stabilization. Graphics card sounds like the only other place you can really upgrade. An AMD 580 (or Nvidia 1060 gtx if you can find one discounted) should be within your budget and offer a noticeable improvement.
Trobinson might have more ideas though.Comment

Heck, go to Reddit (hardware swap), find a used GTX 1060 6GB for under $100 shipped. They’re everywhere, got my RX 580 for $100 shipped a while back for an old budget build.Comment
