I'm not sure about the difference, but this one is only $50 after rebate at Micro Center.

NCIX is reportedly quality, only experience I had with them was a "price mistake" that they didn't honor (it was a Canadian sale they put on US site).

The NCIX version of the card is the DDR5 version, Microcenter is DDR3. It's a great price, but backordered right now

I've been thinking about getting a new video card. Where is the easiest place to sell mine? I think I should have bought a 7800 or 7900 card. There are 8000 cards coming out soon? I'm loving this thread. How much do you think I could get for a 6850?? How high should I consider going when upgrading the card?

Was also looking at getting a nice 27inch 3D monitor. Wife and I plan on building a desk. Should be a nice addition I think.

Would I be right in assuming that with this build I could just upgrade the CPU and graphics card and have a solid gaming computer?

Would this be capable of playing modern games on at least like medium settings?

NCIX I know from their YouTube videos. They have a lot of reviews and stuff similar to what Newegg has up.

If I were you I would pick one place and get everything from there, or half at one and half at another. Just seems like it would be easier to keep up with. That's just me though.

For the 6670 - is the ps requirement above 400? I used to own a 6670 and remember having to upgrade to 500+ - just thinking out loud, I might be wrong.

I think it's a pretty decent deal if you don't want to build one. Processor is around $100, the gpu if its a ti, is $180 ish, motherboard is $70 ish, ram is around $50, etc etc etc. not a bad deal. Not stellar, but he's not ripping anyone off either.

Any idea what would cause a PC to think it's overheating? I recently gave my parents my old pc. I fiddled around on the inside clearing out dust and such. Maybe I put the fans on in the wrong direction? It can be sitting idle for a couple of hours then a "thermal event" happens and it shuts down. Then there is 4 beeps on start up. The 5 years I had this PC I ran it with games and it never did this. I installed CoreTemp and it looks like the temps are stable.

What would the ideal fan set up be? There is a rear fan and a side fan which the top of it kind of lines up with the bottom of the heat sink fan.

Right now the side fan is an intake and the rear fan is an exhaust. I might need to just try making the side fan an exhaust as well. I could have put it on backwards and it's blowing the air from the heat sink back on itself. Either way it shouldn't get so hot staying idle that it forces a shut down.

edit. Maybe they aren't that stable. Both cores were hovering around 80* celcius.

I bet your CPU is not seated correctly or your heatsink is dead

I don't think I took the CPU out when I dusted it. It has been working fine for a month. The heatsink fan is still spinning. Eh guess I will dig into it tomorrow and apply some new thermal paste and all that mess.

Uhggggggg. I got new thermal paste on because it had detoriated away to about half, very thin coverage. I get everything back in and the temps stay at about 40* C. After about 5 minutes the screen started getting wacky and then went green. The video card I just got RMA back from EVGA too. Guess I will try the onboard video and see if it's the card.

I am looking at the OCZ Vertex 3 SSD's. I already have a 320gb and 500gb HDD's in my current system and needed to reformat this weekend. Since I was reformatting, I was thinking of finally getting a SSD to place the OS and some apps on it. I'd go between 90-120gb since its mainly for the OS.

                          Any thoughts?

Plenty of space for just the OS and some programs.
