Sorry for the noob question: how can I look for a new CPU and know that it'll be compatible with my motherboard? Is there like a website somewhere to compare?

Look at the socket type of the cpu and then shop for mobos with the same socket type.

Flip flop that. He is looking for a new CPU.

So look at the socket type on your current MOBO, and when searching for CPUs one of the filters should be socket types.

            Motherboard:

ASRock Z75 Pro3 LGA 1155 Intel Z75 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard

And my current PSU and CPU:

            XFX TS Series P1550SXXB9 550W ATX12V 2.2 & ESP12V 2.91 SLI Ready CrossFire Ready 80 PLUS Bronze Certified

            Intel Core i5-2310 Sandy Bridge Quad-Core 2.9GHz (3.2GHz Turbo Boost) LGA 1155 95W

When I built the PC (2012) I went expensive on the GPU- 660ti, and kinda cheaped the rest, not really cheaped, but the majority of my budget went towards GPU. Its biting me now I think. Guessing I'll probably need a new PSU and possibly MoBo too if I want to upgrade my CPU.

              Compatible CPU's

              https://pcpartpicker.com/parts/cpu/?...rboard-z75pro3

Just check on that site, it'll let you put together a rig and everything compatible pops up

              https://pcpartpicker.com/part/asrock...rboard-z75pro3
Look at the bottom left and choose the compatible part you want to buy

Thanks! Did a ton of research and watched a lot of YouTube lol. Cable Managemnt in the back can be better and I'm going to work on it soon. Just wanted to get everything up and going. Probably going to get a better set of custom sleeved cables.

I wouldn't call the rest of your setup cheapened other than the PSU which could always be more efficient. We have a pretty similar build and also made in 2012. That is a pretty solid CPU you have. Have you considered overclocking it?

I have, but don't really know what I'm doing as far as OC goes so I kinda of let it be and forgot about it.

Don't get me wrong, I'm happy with my rig and really have had zero problems running the games I want.

However, more often now I'm having to run newer games on lower settings. I know that that is an inevitability, I just feel like its about time for an upgrade [emoji1]
