Nice build ODogg! Why an internal USB hub and not an external?

Anyone here has a water cooled rig? I've yet to build one and I'm thinking this next one, its what I'm going to do. I don't want it for overclocking (I'd still utilize the advantage), I'm more concerned with significantly lowering how loud the PC is with all the fans roaring away.

If you do have a water cooled rig, is it quiet compared to a fan cooled rig?

Well I'm going to use the internal hub for RGB lighting and anything else that I may need. I also have a PCI card for external USB as well, although I am pretty sure it's just 2.0 only.

Had an issue with my order and could not get the Gigabyte 1080ti extreme edition gpu. Super bummed but I was able to order the newest Gigabyte card, pretty much the same thing but with waterforce. (Gigabyte AORUS GeForce GTX 1080 Ti Waterforce W Xtreme Edition 11G )

I also had the Asus mobo returned and went with a Gigabyte Aorus z270x Gaming 8 atx motherboard.

Anticipation is killing me, I have half the parts here just staring at me.

When are you starting your build? I start mine tomorrow when I get up. I'm scared.

I get the last of my parts Monday-Wednesday. I watched a bunch of videos on my case so I think I'll be okay. PcPartPickers youtube has hour long real time builds of popular cases and I'm pretty sure they have yours.

What GPU did you decide on btw?

Thought I'd share a pic of my first build...Next time I blow it out for cleaning, I plan to mount my radiator in the front. Will probably make an upgrade or two in 2018. Right now I just want a gaming monitor.

I've had my PC now for roughly 3 weeks and I can say I still get giddy when it's time to jump on. I can't believe I waited this long to jump on the train. The things I can do I never thought was possible or even existed.

Thanks to all who helped me along the way with tips and advice as it's greatly appreciated.

Current list of titles I have

                  Mass Effect Andromeda
                  The Golf Club 2
                  Diablo 3 Battle Chest
                  Rainbow Six Siege Season 2
                  PUBG
                  Gears of war 4
                  Ghost Recon Wildlands
                  Fallout 4

Next purchases will be NBA 2K18 and FIFA 18. Not sure about Destiny 2

Well guys, my build is done!

                      Corsair Carbide 400c white case
                      MSI z270 Krait Gaming Motherboard
                      i7-7700k 4.2ghz
                      Evo 212 cpu cooler
                      16gb Corsair Vengeance RGB ram
250gb Samsung Evo 960 boot drive for Windows 10
                      3TB Seagate Barracuda
                      EVGA SC2 Hybrid 1080 GTX
                      PCI-e 4 port USB 3.0 expansion port
One internal USB 2.0 expansion strip w/magnet (4 more internal usb, 2 ext)
Two extra case fans, one white, other white w/LED
                      Corsair 750watt power supply
Corsair Link Pro RGB lighting system

The pics show all the rainbow lights but generally I leave them white or white/blue in keeping with the "stormtrooper" type build.

Everything went well, had some difficulty installing the EVO fan cooler on the CPU, if I had to do it all over again I'd have paid more and just did the Kraken cooler. Then once we got it all assembled and fired it up and started installing Windows 10 the whole thing went dead. It would then not turn on for more than 2 minutes. Turns out it was the power supply. Went to Best Buy and got a new one and it was back up and going.

I named the machine "Scorpio" in Windows

Re: Official "I want to build a New PC!" Thread

Tales from the dark side of my build. When I installed Windows 10 I failed to listen to many build videos and physically disconnect my media drive. So when I installed Windows 10 I selected my SSD but somehow Windows 10 ended up using my physical drive instead. I think in retrospect it did say something but I clicked by it like a fool.

So after I had everything up and going I decided it was time to install my 3TB media drive. I had some issues as it said it wouldn't format it beyond 2TB. It also had a small area on it that said "system" which should have been a clue but I disregarded it. So I messed around with it and tried some Seagate utilities and absolutely nothing would get it partitioned right. So I read about the MBR/GPT technology and figured I'd have to go into BIOS. Before doing so I had tried to format and partition the drive (this comes back into play later).

I go into BIOS and look around for the MBR/GPT toggle for the drive but in doing so I see an option for "fast boot" on my MSI Krait and I enable it. This was the dumbest thing anyone could do because what I saw was it booted to Windows faster by disabling PS2 for old interfaces. What I didn't read carefully enough is that it also disabled USB interface as well.

I reboot the machine and get a "Cannot find an operating system, press any key to reboot". I try to press a key and nothing happens. So I restart the system to try to go into BIOS. I hold down delete key and see my BIOS screen flash quickly and then the "Cannot find an operating system.." error message. I do this about 5 or 6 times and am freaking out a little. I also insert my USB stick with Windows 10 in it and still same message. I cannot understand why it's not going back to the "INSTALL WINDOWS 10" screen from the USB stick!!

So I decide to take a shower, get some coffee and think about it. When I was doing all of this I started thinking I didn't recall my keyboard lights coming on. When I get back to my office I start connecting things up to USB and nothing lights up. Nothing works. That's when I realize USB is completely disabled. I realize then that what I had changed in BIOS had not only disabled PS2 but also disabled USB.

I knew at this point to get back to a workable machine I'd have to reset the CMOS. So I open up my motherboard manual and read about where the CMOS reset is. It's a jumper that is open. To reset it put a jumper cover on it and wait 10 seconds. Great, ok, where is a jumper pin. I look in all my crap from all this PC stuff, esp my motherboard stuff and no jumper cover. I then look over at my crappy old PC from 2010 and realize it must have a jumper cover on it somewhere. Sure enough I see a nice, big fat blue jumper on it. I grab it and go over to my PC. My huge graphics card is covering it. I'm going to have to remove my graphics card. I unplug the PC, ground myself, flip the case on its back and start doing the surgery to get out the massive graphics board.

About 3 minutes later the card is out. I insert the jumper cover and wait about a full minute. Taking no chances here on it not being long enough. I then take it off, speand about 10 minutes getting the cover back on whatever the hell it was on from my old computer and then I put my new PC back together. I boot it up and VOILA! I have USB and BIOS again! YAY!! So I proceed to go in and get Windows 10 installed properly to my SSD.

One last issue though, the new Seagate 3TB drive still only will format at 2TB. I do some googling and figure out the way to fix it is to go into admin command prompt and type a bunch of commands to clean it (clean it??? wth?) and then convert it over. To be honest I was highly skeptical this would work but lo and behold it worked brilliantly and then Windows 10 happily accepted the new drive as a 3TB drive and then I felt like going and having a beer or twenty

Guys, I have Corsair Vengeance 3200 ram on my build. I'm using an i7-7700K 4.2ghz Intel. I show in UEFI that my RAM is running at 2133.

I am not really into overclocking or anything but should I change this to something higher since the RAM is actually 3200 ram?

EDIT: Well I found it thanks to this article..it's enabled at 3200mhz now!

As my friend Mike said, I really only built this as a way to have Christmas lights on my desktop all year round

I am not really into overclocking or anything but should I change this to something higher since the RAM is actually 3200 ram?

EDIT: Well I found it thanks to this article..it's enabled at 3200mhz now!

You paid for 3200mhz, you should want it to me in at that speed. You should be able to adjust that in the bios. I think that's what I had to dom
