Re: Official "I want to build a New PC!" Thread
Nice man. What made your choose that over the MSI, if I may ask?
This one intrigued me because it’s a little smaller than the MSI variant , I’d have to remove a HDD cage from my case most likely to get the MSI to fit.
Have always heard good things about EVGA too. Specifically their customer service.

I was most shocked to read about the overclocking of the 1070 Ti and how Nvidia was basically restricting partner's from overclocking the 1070 Ti's from the factory. I didn't realize that the 1070 Ti is capable of overclocking higher than the 1080 with a simple one button scan, pretty much making the 1070 Ti the 1080 killer at that price point. So I figured this made the most sense for the money and instead of waiting for the new cards.Comment

It was literally between the MSI one and this EVGA one. In the end, the EVGA just had all the website praise plus everyone always says how great EVGA customer service is, that's a big deal for me. I think either would of been fine.

Don’t get me wrong, 1070ti is absoutley the best option for the price, however, you can occasionally find 1080s around the same price.
Trust me, I did A LOT of research and was 2 seconds from purchasing a 1070ti before the 1080 popped up for literally $3 cheaper than I was going to pay for the same exact 1070ti.
Edit:: just wanted to be clear: the prices you listed, I’d go with the 1070ti all day. Just wanted to throw some input about the killer statement hah.
Btw - bet you gonna enjoy Arma 3 on that bad boy if you still playing it!Last edited by TheBleedingRed21; 07-03-2018, 06:11 PM.Comment

I wouldn’t call it a 1080 killer. I got my 1080 same price as a 1070ti. And while you can overclock the 1070ti to a 1080 or so, you can overclock a 1080 and the gap widens again.

So for "1080 killer", save roughly $50 bucks and your damn close to 1080 performance.
$509 is a steal, but still decided on the $469

Re: Official "I want to build a New PC!" Thread
Yea I agree with that from a performance stand point, I guess to clarify my stance as " a 1080 killer". I meant it more from a price to performance stand point. While it will run frame for frame with a 1080 and even surpass it in some rare titles, it for the most part will lag behind 5 to 10 frames behind. Now for me the few frames isn't a killer, I'm more on the e-sport competitive shooter side so I'm a 1080p player. I could of went 1440 but decided against it, until next build. I figure I have another 3 to 4 years left in my 1080p screen. So for the purpose of what the 1070 Ti will see, it was more beneficial to go $20 to $100 cheaper (depending on 1080 model) I found. Granted I was super close to taking this one over the 1070 Ti!

Cool thing on 1080p with these big cards - you can set DSR on games you get way more than enough FPS for higher resolution scaled down.
For example: I run FIFA 18 at 4K scaled down on my 1080p and its absoutley stunning. So freaking clean.Comment

I got lucky with the 1080. It was $499 no tax. The $469 was with tax. So it ended up being $503. Cannot go wrong IMO.

Yea at that price I would of went 1080 as well, hell I almost pulled trigger with it being $40 more.
I haven't played Arma 3 in a long time, I find myself getting bored without human challenge so I've been playing squad more & naturally a **** ton of PUBG, closing in on 800 hoursComment

Any thermal paste will do. I personally used Arctic MX4Comment

You might have to use vsync inside the GPU panel.
Of course Nvidia DSR is 1:1 performance. So whatever you get with it, will provide same frame rate/experience as if you were really on that resolution. (It’s great to see performance hits you’d take going up in resolution.)Comment

Does anyone have any experience with this monitor? Seems like my best, cheapest bet for 1440p 144hz.
https://m.newegg.com/products/N82E16...694.1513296160
Pretty good price with the sale (which ends today) $320 shipped.
My other option is see what comes up on Amazon Prime Day.

I'm in the same boat. I was planning on building a new one as a gift to myself next year but unless the new cards come out and blow me away it doesn't seem urgent at all.Originally posted by G PericoIf I ain't got it, then I gotta take it
