Fried/failed motherboard would. Not saying that's what you have though.
I think the BIOS screen can appear before all boot sectors initiate, including the HDD. So no, I don't think it would stop that.Last edited by Blzer; 12-10-2019, 03:57 PM.Samsung PN60F8500 PDP / Anthem MRX 720 / Klipsch RC-62 II / Klipsch RF-82 II (x2) / Insignia NS-B2111 (x2) / SVS PC13-Ultra / SVS SB-2000 / Sony MDR-7506 Professional / Audio-Technica ATH-R70x / Sony PS3 & PS4 / DirecTV HR44-500 / DarbeeVision DVP-5000 / Panamax M5400-PM / Elgato HD60Comment

Yeah, I've swapped everything at this point. I have no idea what the issue is, never had an issue like this in a previous build. **** sucks [emoji20].Originally posted by G PericoIf I ain't got it, then I gotta take it

Re: Official "I want to build a New PC!" Thread
Maybe I did things wrong by not upgrading in a while but my goal when building was to upgrade piece by piece so I don't have to do an all new build at once. If I bought the Z390 and the 8700, does the rest look like it'd be compatible?Your GPU is on the low end of what’s recommended for VR and your CPU is quite a few generations back. I would look a new z390 MB and at least a 8700 CPU. That GPU can push VR, but an upgrade there would help as well.
Honestly I would recommend a new build. But hay that’s fun!

The 8700 is a beast of a cpu and will last you a long time.
The 1060 is capable of handling VR, and with the upgraded CPU I think that you will see some noticeable performance improvements. The GPU will still be a limiter depending on the game, but I think upgrading the CPU should be your first priority given that yours is an older i5Comment

Re: Official "I want to build a New PC!" Thread
I know this is a build a PC thread, but you all seem pretty knowledgeable about PCs. My 10 year old son wants a gaming PC for Christmas to play Fortnite, Roblox and Minecraft. We also want something he can complete his school work on as well. He doesn't need a monster rig or anything. I was just wondering if this prebuilt gaming PC I'm looking at on Amazon looks solid.

The short answer is yes, that should be fine for what you're looking for. It meets the recommended specs for both minecraft and fortnite, and the school stuff goes without saying.I know this is a build a PC thread, but you all seem pretty knowledgeable about PCs. If you have a microcenter near you, I might look at something like this in the same price range which has has slightly superior CPU, GPU, and even Ram. You won't get the cool looking case though which might be a selling point to a 10 year old. I think the system overall is slightly more future proof though.

Anybody recommend a good gaming chair? Right now I have an old worn down office chair that is starting to put a toll on my back. Something $200 or less.Comment

Re: Official "I want to build a New PC!" Thread
I've been out of the building scene for a while. Still rolling with my Phenom FX6300.
The oldest item in my set up is actually my monitor, which is an Acer 22" my wife bought from Wal-Mart in 2011.
Got some Christmas cash, so it's time to spend it on myself (for once). Anyone have any solid Monitor recommendations?
Budget: Min - $200 ; Max - $400
Specs:
AMD FX6300
12GB RAM DDR3
Gigabyte GA970A mobo
RX 580(8GB)
2xSamsung SSD (1TB, 256MB), 1 TB WD USB

Re: Official "I want to build a New PC!" Thread
I just bought an Intel Core i9-9900K Coffee Lake 8-Core, 16-Thread, 3.6 GHz (5.0 GHz Turbo) LGA 1151 (300 Series) 95W BX80684I99900K Desktop Processor Intel UHD Graphics 630...Will I need to upgrade my motherboard? Or what else do I need? The 8700 is a beast of a cpu and will last you a long time.

Re: Official "I want to build a New PC!" Thread
Yes you will need a new motherboard. The coffee lake processors use the LGA 1151 socket which is anything with a z370 and z390 prefix (z370 is the older version). I'm not an expert on motherboards though so I can't give great advice on what to get for that.
Unfortunately this also means you're going to have to upgrade your ram. Your DDR3 sticks are not supported, to my knowledge, on any z370 and up motherboard.Comment
