Re: Official "I want to build a New PC!" Thread

I asked before, but after moving my rec room around I made a specific spot for a desk and a gaming pc (or even gaming laptop). Why the laptop? Because I have time to game at work, so it would get some use for sure.

I'm not sure where to start, but lets say my budget ranges between $850 and $1300. Monitor not included because I'll get one of those..

Re: Official "I want to build a New PC!" Thread

My parts are almost all here so I may be set to start building next week.

Had no idea the x570 motherboards are considered enthusiast boards and there is no in between since you either roll with the old B540s it the X570.. No in between until the B550 boards come out in July.

That said finding an X570 board with a decent to great vrm cooler is hard right now . Either they're sold out, people are price gouging, or you have to just bite the bullet for the high end $5-800 ones which is overkill.

Stay away from MSI at all cost if that's what you end up doing. Their boards are cheapest, but are the worst, heat up like a volcano and many have found the same claims of issues. One tech YTer has his claims verified by MSI on top of that.

Some have also found OC by a couple of clicks and lowering the voltage has helped with the heating issues. I wish the new boards weren't far off...and Intel boards have had the same type issues as well....

I'm just not sure traditionally OC is worth a few extra frames for the headaches I brings.

Yep you're right but those aren't upgradeable either.

It basically fits in the left behind category as well

Re: Official "I want to build a New PC!" Thread

I have a question someone may be able to help with.

My PC will turn on and the following works:

              - Lights
              - Fan
              - Fans on GPU
              - RAM has LED lights and I can see them working.

I have an ASUS TUF motherboard and usually there's an initial beep following by a few other beeps when it's booting up, but now there's only the first beep.

I checked DC output voltage from the power supply aka rectifier and that's fine so It's getting the necessary voltage. I can't go into BIOS, it won't even boot enough for that. It just does nothing.

I think the SSD may be shot. I mean.. I guess it could be the CPU or the motherboard still, but I'm just not sure.

Anyone have any troubleshooting tips? My job is electricity and sometimes electronics, but PC work is something I don't know much about. Pretty sure windows is on the SSD.

I'm fine with buying a new SSD and new version of windows and installing it and starting from scratch if that is what I have to do.

Update the bios on your motherboard or you can try to clear the CMOS on your motherboard.

If you have the manual for the motherboard or know the model number you can probably find out what those beeps are supposed to indicate and backtrack from there. I had a PC that was perfectly good for a few months die out of nowhere, turned out to be the cpu. The fans and lights came on otherwise, but it wouldn’t boot even to show the bios screen.

Build 3 but replace the GPU with a 2070 Super, replace the PSU with 650 watts. And you can get a better monitor for that price range. There are also better 570 motherboards for that price too, you paying more because it is mini ITX.

The new Nvidia GPU will be announced tomorrow also, so may wanna wait a bit if you can hold off.

Your SSD could be a problem, but it likely isn't the problem. You should still be able to get to BIOS as that is running off of your motherboard and down the line of the boot sequence.

Definitely check out this or your mobo manual for those beeps as they tell an important story.

The one beep + a few beeps could be memory related. I would try re-seating (and cleaning) the sticks in your mobo, and if that doesn't work try just doing one stick at a time.

If that doesn't work another option is to clear the CMOS on the mobo (look for instructions on how to do it for your specific board).

Hopefully one of those gives you some answers, but that's the extent of my troubleshooting ability short of finding new components to try to see if one of the current ones is faulty.

Mostly sports games - Madden...The Show if it comes to PC. I like WW2 shooters like COD and other first person ones. Would like it to be somewhat future proof if my game selection expands.

Monitor - would I be able to hook it up to my Sony 4K 900E tv?

The price point I saw was about $800.
