Yeah and he lucked out too, got a 1080ti from a friend wanting to sell it so he’s just gonna use that till he gets his new card. He might as well spent the 300 and get the big boy.

I’m wondering how easier the 3080’s will run 4k games. I’m still going to keep my 1440p monitor but might get a 4k monitor again later on.

Sounds like it’s gonna be scarce supply trying to grab any of these at launch. Read it could be the smallest launch by Nvidia.

I’m new to PC gaming/builds but is that usually the case? New one comes out and current version price drops?

I mean that’s what most products follow but this PC building is a whole other beast

Well it depends. The RTX 20 series wasn’t that great of a leap from the GTX 10 series.

The RTX 30 series is the biggest leap they’ve ever had or close to it. Basically, the RTX 3070 is a $499 GPU more powerful than the $1200 RTX 2080ti.

Prices from RTX 20 and less will plummet once everything evens out, they’re dropping so quick now because the market is flooding with people dumping their old card.

Anyone here ever buy a card at launch. I've yet to. I'm typically half a year to a full year behind. This will be my first time attempting to get a card at launch. I know this launch is going to be different considering how much of a leap the technology is seeing plus the prices being better for the consumer, but I am wondering what I can expect. I've seen a variety of different statements across the internet. Some people say it's pretty easy in their area to just go to Best Buy and get a card because not many people think to go there. Others say that unless you have a bot set up to get a card incredibly quick when the sites allow purchases that you will be waiting until November to get a card. Other accounts I've seen state that in their experience the window is short on launch day, but still hours wide.

I'm wondering how it will really be without pre-orders.

I bought the AMD 5700xt a couple of months after launch last year, and it was horrific. AMD is probably a bad comparison though as they tend to be slow on their driver support. My next best comparison would be a Nvidia 680 just a few months after launch. I had 0 issues with that, but that was also almost 10 years ago.

I personally don’t see the value in getting a 3090. I’m hearing it’s 20% faster but it’s more than double the price.

Almost zero reason to get it with the value the RTX 3080 brings unless third party market skyrockets the price.

Reports have been if you don’t get a preorder, you probably won’t see a card until 2021.
