News Corp. Said to Plan U.S. Sports Network to Rival ESPN

Dont think this can work longterm without a baseball package.

I sure hope so. Either this or NBCSN to compete. I am absolutely sick of the idiocy that ESPN breeds. They have the market on lock, and they've decided they can dumb down everything because they don't have to do anything more.

It's terrible. Terrible coverage for pretty much everything.

.....gonna move this to the E&T forum, though.

NBC Sports is trying to do the same. Interesting. More competition is good, though, and it would be good to break ESPN's virtual monopoly.

MLB Network and the NFL Network already destroy ESPN regarding coverage of their respective sports.

The only thing ESPN is good at doing is producing documentaries.

I remember when they tried doing this with FSN which didn't work because it was a set of regional networks. Now, having a fully functional national network with that "foxy" attitude might give ESPN stiff competition for sure.

As others have said though MLB-N and NFL-N already destroys ESPN's coverage of those sports so it's not like this can't be done.

Any competitor has a lot of work to do in the actual presentation of the game they are showing. ESPN is bad at talking about sports, but light years ahead of everyone in terms of showing sports.

              Ehh, I don't know.

Soccer is not bad though I wish they'd show more on TV. Obviously that's a contract thing. Football production is not too bad. NBA is awful, utterly awful. And baseball has gotten worse and worse.
