I feel like you have to completely hate soccer not to have The Two Escobars in your top 5 at least. Easily my favorite one and none of the other one come close. That doesn't mean they aren't good, that one is just on another level.

I've got to re-watch some of these soon. I have volume 1 on blu-ray. Maybe I'll dig it out this week.

I never saw The Two Escobars, so it looks like I need to check it out.

I agree with you regarding those minor details. I thought those were nice touches. I also like the character reveals (Rick Mahorn breaking bricks, Mark Aguirrie lifting the gate). And yeah, "Fight the Power" was perfect.

That said, I actually thought Kid Rock did an excellent job. My fear going in was the narration would feel like Kid Rock, leaving some kind of country-rock footprint. Instead, I thought he was very measured and contained. Many I've spoken with didn't even realize it was he who narrated.

Yeah that is the gold standard, although I think 'Once Brothers' is right up there.

That would be the other reason it wouldn't be there I suppose . But it really is an amazing documentary.

I watch lot of documentaries because I'm a boring person. The Two Escobars might be the best documentary I've seen on any subject matter.

After all the talk in here about the Two Escobars, I feel like I need to go back and re-watch (or did I ever really watch it!?). I just remember being excited that it was coming on and being disappointed…the fact everyone is raving about it makes me doubt I watched it.

Just watched The Two Escobars based on the recommendations here. It was indeed pretty darn good. I'm not sure it's the best documentary I've ever seen, or even my favorite 30 for 30, but I'd certainly recommend it. Educational on top of everything else.

It was interesting to see the World Cup situation from another viewpoint as well (a more important viewpoint). For me, it was a USA triumph with a footnote about the fellow from Colombia. There was more involved than I ever would have imagined.

My sentiments as well. Very good documentary, but not my favorite of the 30 for 30 series.

Two half hour shorts were on tonight. The Maradona half was mediocre. Yeah, we all know Maradona was great, but it's all highlights we've already seen.

The 2nd half hour about Chile had me wanting more. I believe that could have been given the full treatment. The background leading up to the coup was fully whitewashed over, and I would have liked to hear more from the players and the people who were inside the stadium.

Yeah, the Chile one and the one coming next week on Northern Ireland and the cease fire could have for sure been 1-2 hour 30 for 30. If I remember, president Clinton let the leader of the IRA into the US to watch the Irish play in 1994, if he'd agree to a cease fire which led to a broader agreement.

This short on the Yankees/Red Sox/Rangers/ARod drama was pretty good. Interesting insight from some of the parties involved.

Thanks for mentioning this, I probably never would've seen it and it was awesome. Really interesting how differently the chips could have fallen, had the Union approved the Red Sox deal (which would never have happened) or if the Rangers had picked Cano. Does A-Rod ever get a ring?

Or if Aaron Boone never gets hurt in a freak accident in the offseason. Where does A-Rod end up?

It's not a 30 for 30, but I'll argue that Senna is the best doc ESPN has released.

                                It's just wow.
