It's true that Batman can basically be done in any style (the character is THAT good) but (sadly in some ways) the character is stuck in a grim and gritty, unflappable bastard Batman mode since Frank Miller did his stories. A lighter, no capes Batman would probably be an oddity for a year but it wouldn't have lasted the way Smallville did.
I agree with everything you said there.

Re: The Incredible Hulk TV Series

Maybe they shouldn't call it The Incredible Hulk. Maybe it should be more like "Uncontrollable." I'm just not sure it would have much success with a basic retelling of how he came to be etc.

It's going to take very good writing and a solid cast. That's the only way these shows are going to last. It won't go far if it's predictable and lacking depth.

I hope they go the route of the original tv series and have a body builder like Lou Ferrigno somebody real tall and well built play the part of the Hulk instead of using CGI. I think that was one of the problems with the movies was the use of a CGI Hulk made it feel less realistic.

Re: The Incredible Hulk TV Series

I've been watching The Incredible Hulk on Netflix lately as well as some other tv shows from the late 70's early 80's IO remember from my childhood. This show was actually really good.

And there was the episode where he fought Thor

You think that's good? That's horrible. Also, a guy in green paint would doom this from the start, just as a guy in a rubber suit doomed the Fantastic 4 movies from the start. The Hulk is supposed to stand over 7 feet, painting a guy green is a lame substitute.

It was good for the time period it aired. I guess we just have different taste, no big deal there.

This is gonna die a quick death. Watch knowing you won't get a second season.

It won't die the way Wonder Woman did because something about this series seems to feel better organized, but I still don't see the appeal of Hulk.

Maybe I need to watch The Avengers, what with everyone heralding the writing for and performance of The Hulk in it.

I know it was from the '70s but that Hulk vs Thor clip is just amazingly hilarious.

Late 80's actually. That was the first of three made for TV movies. I remember being really excited to see this, and enjoying it despite how loosely Thor was adapted.

All of these comics have a beginning on TV. Batman in the 60's was quirky. I remember in the 80's I think they did a Flash show and it didn't do well. They did the best they could with what they had.

I'm sorry, but that clip of Hulk vs Thor was atrocious for any era or medium, besides it aired in 1988. The only way it's acceptable would maybe be if it was a bunch of high school kids with a camcorder.

I liked the Flash tv show. I wish Netflix had it streaming.
