Well according to all the old newspapers, he actually did die in a fire from cooking. But really I blame the McCoys for the entire feud and here is why:

1. They kept instigating crap every time they saw a Hatfield.

2. Ellison was kicking the crap out of all 4 McCoy sons by HIMSELF and he didn't even start the fight. And what they do ? Get mad because they got their butts kicked by one man stab him over 2 dozen times and then shoot him.

It was that fight right there that kicked off the whole feud. Randal McCoy should have dropped it right then and there.

Son or not, by trial or by execution by Hatfield, Randal McCoy's sons were GOING TO BE KILLED ANYWAY FOR MURDER. So it didn't make a difference if they got hanged by the judge or killed the way they were killed by firing squad, they still were going to die. Considering they killed a man in the town fair right in front of dozens of witnesses.

But what did Randal and his pedophile cousin do ? Hire a bunch of bounty hunters. And on top of all that, Frank Williams was a damn outlaw himself who rode in Jesse James gang for decades. So yeah the McCoys was foul for that

I mean when you think about it, Devil Anse could have killed the McCoys sons for shooting his son Johnse years earlier before the Ellison fight. But no, he let it go.

So I really don't blame the Hatfields at all. How many times you going to let something slide and the same people keep instigating crap with you ? The McCoys got what they deserved.

I wasn't a fan of the super rushed ending. Besides that, I thought the series was awesome and will definitely be picking it up on BluRay.

I think it's a testament to how good the miniseries was that rushing through the last 30 seconds when they tell what happened to everyone was probably the worst part of the whole 6 hours!

It's also a bit mind boggling that they'd do that... really stupid and unnecessary decision that makes you scratch your head.

Other than that though, I really enjoyed the whole thing, very well done.

So I'm now re-watching part 2 as its on right now, and I can't help but think that perhaps it wasn't Costner's performance that was so good, perhaps it was the pipe...

In fact, let me go on the record to say that it most definitely is the pipe. You can't help but look badass with that thing in your mouth!

The Hatfields & McCoys miniseries continued to be a blockbuster for the History channel, setting a new ratings record.

Building on its first two nights, Wednesday's finale drew 14.3 million viewers. All three nights - six hours - rank as the top entertainment telecasts in ad-supported cable history, the channel says.

Monday night's start of the story of the famous feuding families - starring Kevin Costner and Bill Paxton - drew 13.9 million. Tuesday pulled in 13.1 million.

The word of mouth on this miniseries was incredible.

Also, weirdly enough, there is a huge amount of land that my family owned and developed down there during the same time. One even, supposedly, married a McCoy but I doubt it.

And according to Family Tree Maker/Geneology.com, that is true.
