I doubt it's successful. Apple has the marketing for these types of things on freakin' lockdown. It's permeated the collective brain of society. To most people, if it's not Apple, it can't be anywhere near as good.

It's a start though.

Microsoft is starting to slowly "get it" and by that I mean they are trying to point the limelight on themselves. While Apple may have glamourized the "Media Event" they aren't the sole owners of such a thing.

This tablet is a great idea and slowly but surely they are weeding themselves into the marketplace. Most people use a Windows machine out of necessity (or at least the feel of it) or familiarity. This offers that with the "glam" of a tablet. It's the next evolution in mobile devices - desktop level production from mobile hardware.

Curious what type of battery life and screen will be offered...

I agree....I saw an article on Flipboard (forget the actual site, or I'd post a link) that was saying MS used a ton of ideas of Jony Ive (Apple designer) and a Braun guy in the 60's that Ive idolizes...

They're on the right track, not just releasing a tablet, the cover and stand could change things more than we think...if the keyboards are decent you may not want a normal laptop as much, who knows.

Agreed, I'd loved the direction that MS has headed/is heading over the past few years, but I gotta also agree with Matrix that there is a huge group of people out there right now that just thinks anything and everything Apple does is perfect and they think of MS as some old company that puts out crappy and slow products, which is not the case at all of course.

Win 8 is unquestionably as better user interface and more powerful platform than iOS in my opinion, and the Surface looks to be a great piece of hardware, but they will still face a huge uphill battle in the tablet market.

I'm very excited for this. The Surface Pro looks like the ultimate device for me. I could use that thing for pretty much all of my computing, and it will be so easy to take it on the go.

While the specs aren't great, Win8's memory management will make this thing pretty usable. Battery is ok, not great. But I'm anxious to get spend some time with this.

I think the pricing is pretty solid too - starts at $499 for 32GB, sans the touch covers.

Pricing is decent, I'm just poor right now lol

I'd love to check one out after it drops though. It looks awesome, I just can't justify any tech stuff after buying a house and needing a bunch of stuff here first.

I believe MS knows they may lose a bit on the first round, but they had to do something huge and risky to get in the tablet market at all.

Yeah, finances will keep me out of the early adopter club as well. Maybe early next year though, and I hope the platform does well so that I can consider it for my next phone upgrade next fall.

The RT tablet was decidedly less interesting to me than the full blown x64 tablet. More interesting is the Nexus 10 tablet at it's rumored price point.

I'm thinking of selling. Only reason I would keep it is because our administration bought 60 ipads for use in the classroom. By me having my own I could incorporate it more into my lessons. I dropped the hint to the wife I want this for Xmas.

We are using the iPads for online testing on a program called blackboard. I am using data management apps for pe and presidential fitness recording apps.

I got one for Xmas.. Use it more as a "mini laptop" than a tablet.. Very solid, though I have an issue not being able to log into my banks Web site.. Just a big x appears.. Otherwise no issues with any other sites.. Pretty cool security feature.. Instead of a password lock, you can take any pic and set up 3 swipe movements.. Dude at the MS store had a pic of the Operation game board that did this.. Pretty sweet..

Im interested in the "pro" version as my PC laptop of sorts. I only have Mac products and would be nice to travel with a dedicated PC for windows apps and games.

BTW, how do you think the Pro version could handle gaming? Probably cant run newer FPS's, but for older games, probably would be great.
