Has anyone seen the trailer for the remake of this classic. Looks interesting.

I believe that it is scheduled for release around (American) Thanksgiving.

At least the 2nd one came out during the height of the 2nd phase of the Cold War and was anchored by fears that a lot of people had but yeah........This doesn't look all that great.

LOL at the concept of North Koreans invading the continental US. Pure idiocy.

That's not to say the original was much better in regards to realism. Somehow, Mexico and much of Latin America turned Communist and somehow we managed to miss the buildup of Communist troops on our southern border.

Plus, the aspect of the Wolverines lasting as long as they did is pretty much impossible.

No way man. The original was a lot of fun as a kid/early teen growing up. It was a different time. By no means am I saying it was Academay Award material, but it was entertaining and in the 80's felt right for the times.

I could sit here and nitpick the trailer, which is what I was doing in my head (Patrick Swayze didn't have military training!!!), but I'll just say that I liked the original despite the stupidity and the fact that I didn't really care about most of the characters that died, and that a remake of this movie is completely unnecessary. Not as unnecessary as remaking Total Recall or The Thing, but thank God they didn't do those... Wait. Crap.

And yes, I know, The Thing that came out last year was a prequel, but it was still brutally unneeded. And it was really just a remake with worse actors and worse effects that wasn't as good.

Russia's military is vastly inferior compared to ours and doesn't have the transport capacity for such an endeavor.

Besides, if such a thing were to transpire, it would be instant thermonuclear war.

With all that being said, I did think that, despite it's issues, the original Red Dawn was decent if you take it for what it is: a mindless action flick. I just don't have much confidence in a remake of it, though...
