Re: How I Met Your Mother: Season 8

Yea, I don't get why everyone all of a sudden says "I'm out."

    1. It's called "How I MET Your Mother." I guess they should have defined the word met.

    2. Maybe by mid-season, you'd have a point if there are like a dozen filler episodes just to waste time. But until then, you don't know.

You made it to season 8. Like someone else said, would not be surprised to see you guys posting about it in the fall because you really don't know what is going to happen. But if all you wanted to do was meet the mother, guess you don't have much reason to stay around.

I'm tired of the stalling honestly. Its been 8 seasons of them finding reason after reason to delay them meeting. If you wouldve told me after season 5, that 3 seasons later we would still be dealing with the Ted/Barney/Robin love triangle, I wouldve said you were crazy. So now after about 2 seasons of just blatant stalling, Carter and Bays want to do the most worst stall of all and cover 3 days in 22 episodes like this is an season of 24.

Question: When watching the season premiere of Season 8 (where Robin is having cold feet about the wedding), did anyone here think that it would take until the middle or end of Season 9 to get back to the actual wedding? I know I didnt.

To me its a case of C&B not wanting to be creative. They feel can ride Barney's hijinks, the Marshall and Lily Italy/Judge drama, Robin's cold feet, the other 4 meeting the mother before Ted and the love triangle for another 22 episodes. It takes work to create a full or even half a season creating a new character (the mother) and make her interesting. It takes work to show why this woman was the one who made him forget about Robin. C&B dont want to do that level of work anymore because the show has been on autopilot for years now.

To docholliday32's point about "Met" being the title of the show, no one is holding them to the title of the show. I promise you that if they had Ted meet the mother in the 6th episode of Season 9, there is not ONE person who would say "WTF! The title of the show is "How I Met Your Mother! We werent supposed to meet the mom at the end." People want to see their first date. Maybe an episode about Ted's wedding. Her pregnancy...etc.

I cant believe I've wrote this much about a ****ing TV show but I think im disapointed because there was a time when this show was one of my top 5 shows.

Thanks! I completely see your points, and they're valid. I'm just so invested in this show that I think I have the "rose-colored glasses" on. I can fully admit that. They can feed me what you mention and I'll suck it up gladly.

I just hope things go better than you guess, but we'll find out next season.

Honestly, I would rather they take some liberty with the word "Met" and make the last season memorable than take it literally and drag it on for 24 episodes.

One thing that would annoy me is everyone else meeting her before Ted.

I've said this before, but I feel like we've seen Ted dump so many women for a litany of reasons that I'll be angry if the show ends when they meet. I want to know why this one was so special.

What's wrong with that? If anything, they'd meet her(and like her) before Ted even meets her, basically making her even more of a perfect match(Since they'd like her without having anything to do with Ted).

Maybe they meet because of one(or more) of the friends playing the "Have you met Ted" game since they already know the wife, it'd be easier to start the game.

What makes you guys so certain you won't see her and Ted together until the end? Just because he won't "meet" her until the end, doesn't mean they can't do flash forwards to where they're already together. I'd be surprised if they don't show significant relationship moments between them. This show has always had a very fluid concept of time. The wedding weekend is going to be a backdrop to the season, but they aren't going to spend 12 hours of programming on 56 hours. It's a framing device that's been used by other television programs and movies before, and it works great.

Flash forwards only work for me if the whole or majority of the time in those episodes are FFs. Doing some 1 min FF like when Ted is referring to something that hasnt occurred yet isnt going to cut it.

Also, there is nothing that C&B have said that would lead us to believe that FFs will be a significant part of next season. Could they do 1 or 2 episodes that discuss things that happen after they meet? Sure but that isnt enough for me. I'll watch those episodes and skip the ones about Robin having cold feet or Ted losing the weeding band or whatever thing the creators use to delay the two meeting.

Short of Ted storming out of the wedding because he's pissed about Robin/Barney, I can't imagine a scenario where Marshall and Lily somehow meet the bass player too. I'd assume Barney/Robin can be said to meet her because she's part of the musical group at their wedding, but.....I dunno.

                        We'll see.

They should condense it all to the 12 hours before they meet and do 24 episodes. Real time, man. Like 24.

And there should be just as much torture (THERE, MO. THERE.) and bomb diffusal.

I feel like I have to watch the final season because this is what it has all led up to. I couldn't watch 8 seasons and then just quit watching. Ted, Marshall, Barney, and Robin have been a few of my favorite characters on TV.

I posted this pic in last years thread I think. It was when Ted said something like he didn't know it at the time but the mother was in the bar at the same time and he bumped into this chick. Does she look the same as above.
