In reality the whole punk rock culture is about not signing to major labels and basically "sticking it to the man". Playing local scenes around the country or world and having underground movement support.

Not about making millions with posters next to Beiber at Wal-Mart. That is the issue.

Don't try and ride the punk culture when you A) don't sound punk at all, and B) sold out for corporate tween saturation.

I understand about wanting to make millions. But do not disrespect an entire movement in the process.

Have to agree with that, especially the punk part. But in his defense he was off the wagon. There is a reason he is in rehab now. lol

Honestly, I just thought it was funny. I'm not going to complain about it being lame or anything and I'll just enjoy it.

It just HAS to be a publicity stunt. It just HAS to be.

That little rant of his just seemed so "fake" for lack of a better word.

How convenient that he throw this tantrum and check himself into rehab while getting international headlines just days before their new album came out.

I've been a Green Day fan since I was 11 (back in 1997). While I was familiar with them around the time of Dookie and Insomniac, it was Hitchin' A Ride that made me a fan. Had no idea Good Riddance was even by them til I bought Nimrod (which to this day is still my favorite Green Day album). I really liked American Idiot when it came out and saw them live shortly after (November of 2004), before the album became way over popular and they became even more popular than they already were. Saw them again in 2010 and they really know how to put on a show, even though they aren't exactly the most talented band. Probably the best show I've ever been to, even though they aren't the best band I've seen live.

21st Century Breakdown as a whole was pretty mehhh, but I did enjoy a few songs. Their new album UNO has a few songs that have a bit of a Nimrod feel to them, which is welcome by me.

As for them being punk, they aren't "real" punk, but I group them with the other popular "punk" bands from the 90s, The Offspring, Rancid, and Blink 182. In terms of punk, The Offspring and Rancid were the closest to actual punk, with Green Day still much more so than Blink, but not as much as the other 2. Then the Offspring sold out with Americana (which still had some good songs on it, but Pretty Fly really put a damper on the quality of that album). Rancid is the only one that has somewhat maintained it's "punk cred" all these years.

I don't even group Bad Religion in with those bands because they've managed to stay somewhat underground compared to those other bands.

I would say Warning was more a departure from Green Day's sound than Nimrod was.

I have to disagree. Greenday when they were teenagers were as punk as anybody. Later on they got away from that scene. But the GreenDay I remember back in the late 80's in those Berkerly Punk Clubs were just as punk as Rachid.

Good point, it is wrong, but still a good point. lol. Billie has been sober for about a year and then started using again. I will say this bad press is still press, so you never know. lol But in Billie's case I would say no.

No such thing as bad press in Hollywood/music industry.
