Would love a prequel season to show Robert's Rebellion.

That might be the way they buy some time.

        Spoiler

As there are a couple of theories that are based on what happened in Roberts Rebellion.

Books 4 and 5 are at least 3 seasons between them. Probably 4 (Dance with Dragons is a long book). So we're probably looking at Season 8 or 9 for Book 6, which would be 2018 or 2019. Then, at least 2 seasons for Winds of Winter (It's supposed to be 1500 pages long), puts them on the last book in probably either 2020 or 2021. That's 7 more years for him to pump out those two books. Winds of Winter is expected in late 2014/early 2015. So I don't think it will be too much of a problem.

Worst case scenario, they could take a year off like the Sopranos did.

Arya's going to be like 40 by the time we get to the end of the series.

And it doesn't help that Bran already looks and sounds 40.

The way he has grown since season one is amazing. I guess we all went through the same process growing up but wow. I read somewhere that there is an agreement between Martin and the show's producers that they have a right to go in their own direction if he dies or takes too long to write the rest of the books. Those kids won't stop growing that's for sure.

The show runners already know how it all ends (Martin told them), so if that does happen, we'll still witness the ending, just not necessarily how Martin would've gotten there.

I don't really see the "kids" growing up as much of a problem. At this point, the show follows its own timeline anyway.

I don't think its possible for the series to maintain momentum that long.

i 2nd this sentiment; she has really come a long way.

she 1st start to get me after she went to get her dragons back from that voodoo guy, and then on sheer willpower she broke his mind-f*ck spell.

but she had me officially hook line and sinker, when she freed those army slaves, and she asked (paraphrasing)

......being as youve pretty much been a slave your entire life, now that you are free to go if you please, who would ride with me as a free man?

then when the newly appointed officer said his name was grey worm, and she said get rid of your slave names and pick any name you wanted, he replied that grey worm was the name he chose on the day that he freed her.

so now she's got a killier army that rides with her out of respect and not fear. plus if you watch grey worms face when she told that guy to free all the slaves in the city, that just solidifies even more that she's about her words and that they would ride for her to the end.

plus she's got the dragons. and you already know drogos in somewhere in the afterlife chillin, proud as sh*t. yup she definately my favorite.

Nope, not complete. The series is [currently] planned as seven volumes, of which five have been released. However, the fifth book was delayed and delayed and came out nearly six years after the fourth, the fourth was five years after the third, while the first three were banged out in four years total (1996-2000).

The books are fantastic though. Much better than the TV show, IMO, though the show is great. They are huge, so expect a lengthy read, but I rank them near the top in the fantasy genre, and are truly something different. They do vary in quality, with some having tons of action and others being hundreds of pages of chess moves...and the last book leaves you with cliffhanger upon cliffhanger, making the wait for the sixth ever more excruciating.

How many seasons are book readers expecting the tv series to go?
You'll get varying views, but my opinion is this: Book Three will take up the better part of two seasons (2013 & 2014). Book Four and Five occur at the same time, more or less, and I think they'll take up two seasons total (2015 & 2016). All signs point to the creators of the show knowing how the overall story ends and where the characters end up, but how detailed that knowledge is is not known.

In the meantime we fans just wait with bated breath of a publishing date for 'The Winds of Winter' and hope that GRRM doesn't kick the can.

Apparently Game of Thrones will be taking a one week break next week.

                              This is a total bummer.
