Re: Game of Thrones Season 3 (aka A Storm of Swords)
HBO Throne = pretty good.
George RR Martin's vision of the throne = get the **** outta here you puny little HBO chair!

I'll be honest, that looks obnoxious. Glad HBO had the good sense to make the Iron Throne look reasonable.Moderator

Having a throne like that is infinitely more badass though.Comment

It's definitely more colorful. I like it. I think the dark imagery is a bit overdone right now.Comment

The Paint Hall could hold that easily. I bet it's not over 40 feet tall.Comment

If Im a producer, Im not even entertaining the idea if building and managing that set piece. Things like that are what the imagination is for, or maybe CG.Comment

Originally posted by George R.R. MartinWe have a huge throne room set in Belfast, but not nearly huge enough to hold the Iron Throne as I painted it. For that we'd need something much bigger, more like the interior of St. Paul's Cathedral or Westminster Abbey, and no set has that much room. The Book Version of the Iron Throne would not even fit through the doors of the Paint Hall.Last edited by Bruins; 07-11-2013, 07:19 AM.Comment

That version of the iron throne might actually have 1000 blades in it...Comment

I don't buy it. The doors of the paint hall are 75 feet high. The throne in that pic is no where near that tall unless those white cloaks are 10 feet tall. Actually it's not that tall even if they are 10 feet tall.Comment

Either way, its not that serious.Comment

Re: Game of Thrones Season 3 (aka A Storm of Swords)
Sorry, but I'm going to believe GRRM on this one, considering he's been to the Paint Hall and the Throne is his own creation. I think he'd know whether or not what he imagined would fit.Comment

Re: Game of Thrones Season 3 (aka A Storm of Swords)
When making movies and tv shows the vision that plays out on screen will always be shaped by production cost limits. No way the producers could justify spending on that big crazy throne.Comment

The throne as Martin envisions it is pretty damn scary to look at actually, which, I believe, further drives home just how magnificent of a force the Targaryens were when they first arrived in Westeros. It'd be funny to see Robert and his fat *** walk up that Iron Throne.
Old news, but sharing it here since it hasn't been discussed. Red Viper cast in GoT.
Based on what I know of the Dornish, I would've expected him to be more brown/golden brown-skinned. People say he's a terrific actor though. Also, my body is fully ready for the introduction of the Dorne women.Comment
