I'm with you on that one too (regarding Big Bang Theory). 90% of the shows I've seen mentioned in this thread, I've never really been interested enough to sit down and watch. However, I still see the merit in most of them. I could see how someone would enjoy Mad Men (it bored me), I can see how Game of Thrones could be considered great, I understand how Breaking Bad could draw so many people in.

With The Big Bang Theory (and Two and Half Men), I just really struggle to see it. It confounds me. It goes beyond "I don't like it at all but whatever." I just honestly do not get how it could be such a hit among so many people.

I see why people like Big Bang Theory, it's mainly Sheldon Cooper. People love that weird person that is so socially disconnected because its funny to see someone who is socially clueless to them.

Similar characters from shows I watched are Balki from Perfect Strangers, Abed from The Community, Robert Barone from Everybody Loves Raymond, Latka and Iggy from Taxi, Steve Urkel from Family Matters, Skreech from Saved by the Bell, the list goes on. You could probably find that "off" character in almost all sitcoms. They have these quirks with them that people love.

This show brings out the inner geek in people and laughs at it. This show I dont think would have worked in the 90's or 80's since there was a negative light on nerds. With the emergence of technology, a large amount of us have become what people in the past would call a "nerd" and has become socially acceptable.

They are gamers, comic book readers, toy collectors, tv and movie enthusiast. 100% of the posters here can associate with them even if you don't like the show.

Archer. By a country mile. I can entertain the though of Breaking Bad, but Archer is hands down the most consistently awesome show episode to episode, and it's actually getting better as characters like Krieger and Cheryl/Carol get more time. Even if you take away the punchlines/jokes, the story lines are great and character interactions are simply amazing.

I see where you're coming from with the strange character angle, but it all just feels terrible to me. It doesn't feel like there's one weird character in a show with a stable/normal base. It's just all a mess. There's this weird no-mans land where it sort of feels like they're looking to re-create super geeks but nothing about it feel authentic at all. It's more like if someone created a sitcom revolving around big sports fans, where all the characters do is wear sports jerseys in every episode, make the same jokes about picking sports over girls, and say things like, "Man, I love my wife as much as I love my Madden 2013 video game for my video game system." Every bit of The Big Bang Theory feels forced and inauthentic in terms of what they're trying to pull of.

I can't look at the link myself right now (I'm at work) but I think this is an article I read before that helps paint a picture as to why The Big Bang Theory doesn't work in terms of relating to "nerds". http://www.ugo.com/tv/11-reasons-gee...ig-bang-theory. I don't remember agreeing or relating to all of that article (it's been a few months since I last read it) but I thought at least some things were on point.

All that considered, I still respect those who enjoy watching the show. I surely have loved (and currently love) many TV shows people would consider to be trashy and/or terrible and I'm not sure I'd enjoy being judged for it. I know I have my reasons for liking what I like, as to do other folks in terms of liking The Big Bang Theory. I just struggle to find those reasons in this case.

Yeah the first that came to mind for my was Abed from Community.

Anything involving Abed is hilarious to me.

Troy and Abed in the mooooorning!

Actually, the reason people hate the Big Bang Theory so much is because it's what dumb people THINK smart people sound like.

90% of the Big Bang Theory is "OMG he said Quantum Physics I know what that is I'm such a nerd loooooool."

                It's nerd blackface.

I just started Sons of Anarchy a week ago - I start Season 4 today. Its a pretty good show - very addicting. It actually killed my Breaking Bad buzz. Another show I'd nominate is Scandal - I like the suspense.

I started watching Game of Thrones again. Maybe its because of the books, but the beginning of the first episode is eerie and epic as hell.

They've been mentioned before, but I think Burn Notice & White Collar should be on there. The only other two shows I watch every week have been The Walking Dead & Homeland.
