Re: Star Trek Into The Darkness
I'm as big a fan of the cerebral, introspective, and humanist nature of the Star Trek Franchise as anyone can be, but I'm not letting the shift in tone toward the tastes of the 21 first century adolescent/young adult, damped my enjoyment of the new films.
I would also say that although they are marketing the action elements of the film quite heavily right now, my gut tells me that the core themes that make Star Trek, Star Trek will still have a strong presence in this movie.
Also, with Benedict Cumberbatch portraying the main villain he's not going to just be firing photon torpedoes at anything that moves.Jordan Mychal Lemos

Re: Star Trek Into The Darkness
I'm the biggest star trek fan at OS and I loved the first movie and look forward to this one. It's not the series, but trek has been on life support so I really do root for these and appreciate them for what they are. Now let's get a clone wars type show for the kids and a new series for the adults. I'm ready! The line must be drawn HERE! This far, no further!Comment

Re: Star Trek Into The Darkness
I'm not so sure a minute long trailer from the first installment would have led me to believe it would be as good as it was, so I won't judge harshly on this one. Was waiting for another so I'm happy to know it's coming.Comment

15 Things We Learned While Visiting Bad Robot

The Bad Robot offices are what your film company would look like if you owned one. Old movie posters and cool art decorate the walls. Props are strategically placed in the hallways. Offices are adorned with cool toys and images. There are two gorgeous outdoor spaces to chill in and it even has a secret…

Re: Star Trek Into The Darkness
Loved the first one, and LOVED this trailer. Primarily because...it gives away nothing. Everyone seems to be complaining that it seems to be all action/CGI with no plot. But how do we really know that there's no emphasis on the plot? Nobody even really talked in the trailer, and it's only a minute long. I hate trailers that give away the entire story. So yeah, I'm pumped for this.Comment

Re: Star Trek Into Darkness
Much better trailer but hrm, reading the IMDB plot synopsis this looks like a redux/mash up of Khan's story updated and slightly changed for 21st century terrorism sensibilities.
That one quick shot of Kirk and Spock doing the Vulcan greeting to each other is also VERY reminiscent of the end of Wrath of Khan as well.....
hmmmmm
I could be way off base but that's just initial thinking.Member of the Official OS Bills Backers Club

Re: Star Trek Into Darkness
Not even gonna bother watching this trailer. They did a believable enough job with the first one (sans casting Winona Ryder as Spock's mother...what were they thinking). Karl Urban as Bones was spot on believable as his younger version. Simon Pegg can be replaced as far as I'm concerned, but I see that he is still there. Scotty should be played by someone more salty and experienced than Kirk.
I'll wait until it's out a couple of weeks and all of the annoying little kiddies have had their fill.Last edited by daflyboys; 02-04-2013, 09:50 AM.Comment

Re: Star Trek Into Darkness
I thought the ad was quite good and it turned me around on this movie. It sure looks a lot darker and depressing than the first one what with the implication that earthSpoilerwill fall to the villain.Member of the Official OS Bills Backers Club

Re: Star Trek Into Darkness
In case this hasn't been mentioned i'll post it in spoilers too but i've heard speculation that the villain is.....
SpoilerGary Mitchell, a character from TOS. Here's a blurb on the character from wiki:
Starfleet lieutenant commander and ship's navigator. He and James T. Kirk have been friends since he joined the service, and Kirk asked for Mitchell aboard his first command. At Starfleet Academy, he remembers "Lieutenant" Kirk as being "a stack of books with legs," and that "in his class, you either think or sink." Mitchell also "aimed a little blonde lab technician" at Kirk, who almost married her. Later, on the planet Dimorus, Mitchell almost died from a poisoned dart thrown by "rodent things" who were aiming for Kirk. In 2265 aboard the Enterprise, Mitchell is "zapped" by the Galactic Barrier, which turns his eyes glowing silver and grants him enhanced ESP powers. As he grows stronger, he becomes a danger to the ship and crew, so Kirk is forced to maroon him on the planet Delta Vega. Mitchell doesn't go quietly, however, and Kirk is forced to kill him on the planet's surface.Member of the Official OS Bills Backers Club
