I really wanted to like it, but I just couldn't get past all the dumb. I loved Idris Elba, but that was about it. Neither the robots or monsters were really all that interesting. None of the action sequences impressed me, but I did not see it in 3D so that could be it.
I get that movies like this aren't supposed to have great or even good dialogue and character development, but there were several scenes that were laughably bad. The last hour of the movie dragged and the climax was seriously underwhelming. Although I will say, the post-credit scene was pretty badass."Before you criticize someone, you should walk a mile in their shoes. I'm in the same boat, only I was still able to enjoy it. If this film even had the a mediocre script, it would have been one of my favorites this year.
Unfortunately, it doesn't look like we'll be getting a sequel. Grown Ups 2 is going to beat it at the box office this weekend - which makes me a little sick.Writer for Operation Sports

Saw it in Dolby Atmos (first time I've watched a movie in Atmos) and thought it was pretty okay. I came in fully expecting a popcorn flick but I wasn't really WOW'd either -- I was more wow'd by what Dolby Atmos does for the movie going experience.
I'd rate it a 7/10 after one viewing.Comment

Just back from seeing it in 3D and I must say, I was blown away. It's every little's boys wet dream. The intro and the first time you see a Jaeger and its assembly as well as that first fight, just WOW
The special effects had to be good for the movie to work and it was superb, the 3D effects were also very well done, even my girlfriend was impressed at the 3D. The story even though nothing special served the movie well enough to keep the interest. The real star of this movie was definitely the action and the kanji.
It's sad that it did so poorly here it's opening week. From the intro of the film and the first fight I felt like this movie was on par with Avatar on a technical scale. I'm hoping it succeeds in Japan and the rest of the world, I really want a sequelComment

I haven't had that much fun at the movie theatre in a while. Well worth the money. Doesn't hurt that I am a huge Charlie Hunnam fan. Between GSH and SoA I knew I would like him as the lead role even if his accents aren't always on point.YNWAComment
