I understand it was a jab at Marvel, so now I'll defend them. Just look at the genesis of the Marvel Universe (who incidentally utilized a female in their first 60's era comic book super-hero push). Plus, Marvel was leaking money and almost got sucked into a black hole until they decided to do their own movies and took a flyer on what was once considered a "B" level (much to my chagrin) character. What were they supposed to do to stay alive? Take a flyer on a Ms. Marvel or She-Hulk movie? Marvel went with their strengths from this new start because they knew the characters and their stories worked. I don't see what kind of **** Marvel gets handed for how they handled the Black Widow, but then again, I don't (and won't) read every virtual rag and blog-head writing out there as most of them are moronic fodder to fill web pages and an assignment from a publisher. The Black Widow has been handled just fine considering the relative strength of the character compared to their incredible line-up and has been given more than her fair share of play. What is Marvel supposed to do? Besides, once they gained momentum, Marvel has clearly been conscientious about their female involvement as time has progressed. But you can't turn the franchise into the WNBA. It's just not going to work. This entire project cannot be turned into a social experiment despite what outcries from certain interest groups may (or already probably have) happened. The stories have to work and have to keep the interest of the public, because, the bottom line is ... the bottom line.

Re: Mad Max 4: Fury Road (MadMax)
There's some fairly heavy criticism concerning Black Widow in the newest installment that is a common thread in the reviews and criticism of the movie. Even it's own actors have noted problems with the way she's been handled.

Re: Mad Max 4: Fury Road (MadMax)
You're mixing what you're saying now or maybe not being clear. Were you talking about how they've handled her in general or just during the most recent installment. Ok, I'll bite.... shoot me some links. And as far as her fellow actors, are you talking about the same guys who made a joke about her being a slut and then the internet "media" went gaga all over it (because, again, they have to write about something). I'm sure there are disparaging pieces.... not much else sells.Last edited by daflyboys; 05-16-2015, 10:25 AM.Comment

Re: Mad Max 4: Fury Road (MadMax)
This article sums up what I was referring to pretty nicely: http://io9.com/black-widow-this-is-w...ngs-1702333037
Perhaps I've become more perceptive to it since I'm around my girlfriend's nieces all the time and see a clear disconnect between boy and girl merchandising for the same IPs. I think Black Widow is a more interesting character than the others and a BAMF in the movie-verse, but some of her character beats just feel convoluted.
Anyway, my initial point was that it was surprising for Mad Max to do more in 90 minutes than other major action film series have done over the course of 2 or 3 movies. I didn't mean to get sidetracked in here on a somewhat average series when Mad Max was pretty damn brilliant. To be honest, its themes are just one part of the many Mad Max does well and why it feels like such a breath of fresh air.

Re: Mad Max 4: Fury Road (MadMax)
Just saw the movie (2D Atmos) and damn that was insane! Loved the cinematography and how the colours just dominate the screen and as most people would agree upon, the stunts are amazing. The cars reminded me of that Xzibit meme - I heard you like your cars, so I put a car on top of yo car on top of yo car.And I agree with the swinging guitar guy, it just added to the fun craziness of the movie.
I think this is a movie even your girlfriend or wife would enjoy because of how badass all the females are and how they don't become a device for Max to love/like/have sex with. It's not even really Max's movie, it's Furiosa's.Comment

Re: Mad Max 4: Fury Road (MadMax)
Its weird, but the action sequences were never "over the top" to me compared to say Fast and Furious, Transformers, Avengers, et al other major action franchises. The action was certainly hectic and crazy, but it never really pulled you out of the movie or made you question the mechanics like those other films do repeatedly.
I also liked the subtle humor. Max swinging back on that pole as a ball of red and orange fuel explodes behind him and his "oh, ah" reaction got a chuckle out of me.

I just saw it in IMAX 3D, it was like a incredible rock concert. I'm totally blown away, coolest thing I have ever seen in the movies.

Re: Mad Max 4: Fury Road (MadMax)
Finally saw it yesterday with the wife. Simply a STUNNING spectacle of adrenaline. As been stated, the scenery, color palette, stunts and action are some of the best I've seen in a movie.
You can feel the characters are from a dreaded wasteland, surviving in ways we can only imagine. They are invested in their survival, bringing a human feel to the movie. The cars are unbelievable....
George Miller hit this-1 outta the park. It was no better way to re-introduce Mad Max to a generation that may never have heard of him..

Re: Mad Max 4: Fury Road (MadMax)
I'm pretty sure I would have skipped this movie and had no regrets about it if I hadn't heard of the reviews. But man, I would have missed out.
Awesome flick, coming from a guy that doesn't tend to always gravitate to the action genre. It wasn't perfect and it likely wasn't life-changing but for what it's supposed to be, I have to think it sets the standard in the field.
I've grown accustomed to these types of movies following a formula in terms of accessibility and what's typically expected out of them (PG-13 rating, a love story somewhere in there, a series of montages, overly-corny hero lines) but Mad Max: Fury Road knew exactly what it was and what it wasn't. Standard conventions were there, but only when they wanted them to be. Otherwise, it was just unapologetically awesome.
The imagery and cinematography were both very, very memorable. The fast-motion moments during battle felt unique and original, and the long zooms (don't know if that's the real term) into the faces of drivers (Immortan Joe, in particular) added so much. And so many moments stick out in my head just because they were unique and interesting - with many of those elements coming in support as opposed to being primary actions. For instance, the guitar player was wild, the bald gents hanging on the front of cars with great zeal, the mid-battle paint huffing (?!), and the welcome willingness of the camera to hang onto shots of the automobiles to ensure they remained central and endlessly intriguing characters throughout.
Again, there's room for plenty of criticism in this flick - it's not perfect, particularly if one has this need for an extravagant storyline with all its nooks and crannies. That's not what this film is. However, I also can't stop raving about it. It was like White Zombie's "Black Sunshine" come to life... on steroids... for two straight hours.Comment

Re: Mad Max 4: Fury Road (MadMax)
Still have mixed feelings on this movie. The Road Warrior still blows away all the other movies including this one. Which is no surprise they use the same idea of runaway truck against all odds motif from that movie. I think that's the part that bugs me the most. They haven't really changed the dramatic aspect of a runaway truck from that movie. Was in Thunderdome and now this one. However Thunderdome had other elements going for it.
This movie as a stand alone film is quite astounding in its cinematography but was a bit Sin City-ish which isn't a bad thing. Most movies are headed that way of the graphic comic anyway.Comment
