If there is no problem in their line, then they will just send out a refresh single to your house. If that doesn't work, they will just tell you to reset your modem.

Most problems are fixed by resetting your modem anyway. If that doesn't work, THEN they will give you a ticket and send a tech out to your house to replace your modem or the wire inside of your house itself if need be.
THANK YOU!!! He kept rambling about giving him information this and information that. Seriously? Got me so riled over for being so ignorant.

I chatted with another rep to confirm something was being done to my service, and she sent out the refresh signal and everything came out OK. She asked me to do another hard reset and then test.

I just don't understand the training protocol for Comcast. Do they give them a book and tell them to show up in a week for their first day on the job?

Had nothing but problems with UVerse, eventual dropping them and getting full refunds for the TV part of the bill. As I said in another post I longed for the years of "rabbit ears" after my experience with them.

After moving around the country so much, I've branched out with TV/internet.

I've always had cable for the most part, and it was serviceable. Didn't like my experience with att much at all. this year when we got our own place we switched to DirecTV and Comcast for cable. It's about 150/mo. 2 boxes with whole home DVR service, their package with the movie channels and everything comes out to about 120/mo. Then we have the 20mbps Comcast, which in speed tests I average about 25mbps. That's 30/mo with no contract and the installation was free.

Never thought I'd get satellite but I love it so far, and even with the considerable rain we get there's no problems with picture quality ever. Our main TV is a 55" Samsung (one of those smart TV things) and our bedroom is like a little 27" or so that you wouldn't be able to tell much difference on either way for quality. Upgrading that soon, but thats neither here nor there.

As an avid former ***** of satellite TV I have changed my tune after having it, honestly.

I had DirecTV for a while living in Denver. There can be some interruption with snow, if it sticks on the dish. You have to remove it if that's the case, but that's the only issue I had with it. My dish was on a balcony railing, not on a roof, so it was easy to clear off if snow accumulated.

Comcast has been reliable for me, except lately they have been throttling my internet speeds at times if I am downloading large files. I agree that they are fairly expensive.

Snow is fine, rain is the issue.

Re: AT&T UVerse vs Comcast Xfinity

                  So how incompetent is Comcrap?

Well Friday, I decided to actually talk to someone live and see if they can somehow fix my problem. The guy, who was most likely outsourced from a different country, was reading straight from the books. Power cycle this and Reset that. Finally after coming to the conclusion that none of these, no matter how many times I've done it, is fixing the issue, he goes "Sir, you need to replace your modem."

ugh, ok, Friday night, I need internet for the weekend, so I burn rubber to the Comcrap center that's about 15 minutes away. Luckily I beat the rush and there was no line. I get a new modem, fairly easy process right?

I go home, plug it in. No power. what the?! I check other outlets, and still no power. I look at the power adapter, and it's for a damn netgear router and not for the actual Comcrap modem they gave me. Furious, I drove back, tempted to chuck it at the monkey that gave it to me.

Finally get a new one, and praying it works this time. 90 minutes after this whole fiasco started, I'm finally back home for my 2nd new modem. Plug it in, eureka! It powers up.

Connect everything.. blink blink blink.. SAME FREAKING ISSUE AS MY OLD MODEM!! WTF?!?!?!?!

I call Comcrap, pissed off... I tell them to shut up with their damn diagnostics and order them to get a tech to my house to fix my line.

"Sir, our next available appointment will be Tuesday.."

SERIOUSLY??? Even more furious, I tell them to transfer me to billing and forced them to refund my money. I got 6 days refunded back and am still waiting for the damn tech to come out tomorrow. What's even more funny is that ATT is coming on Wednesday to install UVerse.

I may make the Comcrap tech's life a living hell tomorrow just because I'm so pissed off at their company. Maybe I'll rub fecal matter on my modem and have him check it out.

                    Update..

So I've had ATT for 6 days, and have never been so happy. Even though I'm still getting used to the channels, everything seems so much better.

What's even funny is that I go to return my equipment at the Comcrap center, and there was a line out the door!!!

Seriously, there was like 20 people in front of me.

What's even more funny is the reaction to every person that walked in the door and saw the line..

                    "Seriously?"
                    "Are you serious?"
                    "What the.."
                    "Forget this"

                    and my favorite..

"Shows you what type of company they are"

95% of the people in line had bags of equipment waiting to be returned...

Spray some PAM on your dish and the snow will slide right off (unless there's a ton of it). I used to do this before the snowstorms would come and we didn't have too many problems in that regard.

Holy crap! $190!!! What a ripoff! I think I would have given up on cable if I had to pay that much.

I've never been impressed with cable period. When I moved here, I had the choice of Comcast or Fios and after Time Warner left a bad taste in my mouth in Ohio, I wanted nothing to do with cable. I pay $130 right now for Fios TV with something like 300+ channels and at least 100 HD channels or so, Internet with ~30 Mbps up and down, and then phone which is free with the plan I got. Have to pay $20 for my HD DVR and extra box. My price is locked in for 2 years and if I'm still here then, I'll just call and use the empty thread of switching to Comcast to renew or get a better deal.

All the problems people supposedly have with comcast my family has never experienced in 10+ years of having them.

I guess that's the perks of working for them.

See that's the thing. I've been with them over 10+ years as well.. I've had them in 2 of the places I've lived in. I liked them so much I moved my service when I moved to a house.

The thing is.. when you don't have problems, you won't experience their Customer Service.

When you have problems and need them fixed, Customer Service puts you in a loophole and thus ruining the image of Comcast.

As a service, they were fine. Not the best, or the cheapest, but they did the job for when I had them.

But when they go and leave me without internet which is a vital need in my job, and then say they can't send a tech for another 6 days, which never came, well that's what did it for them.

They can be a great service, but when your customer service sucks, which mainly deals with.. Customers.. it's always going to turn out bad.

I found Comcast to be overpriced here as well, another reason I passed. They give you a real nice first 6 months rate, but after that, I would have been paying about what I am now and not getting near what I get (fewer channels, slower internet with Comcast). Sometimes you can talk them down, sometimes you can't. DirecTV was good about giving incentives, but when my Time Warner bill shot up years ago at the end of the introductory rate, all I managed to get was Showtime free for 3 months. Didn't make up for the $30 increase in my monthly bill.
