    AT&T UVerse vs Comcast Xfinity

So I currently have Comcast and recently received a flyer that UVerse is now available in my area. I'm trying to decide if I should make the switch.

I'm not a big fan of Comcast, and the monthly bill I have to pay. Currently I pay about $190 just for Internet and TV services. Which I find rather high.

I went onto ATT to check out their prices, and with the almost exact same services (slight bit slower Internet Connection) I can make my monthly bill $145, saving me $45 a month if I were to switch.

The thing is, I've had Comcast for so long that I'm worried if I were to switch, I won't be satisfied with their service and be forced back to Comcast.

Has anyone made the switch and was happy with it? Has anyone made the switch and regretted it? I've read pro's and con's for both companies, but saving the extra $$$ is always a plus in my book.

If anyone has any recommendation, please let me know. On hold with Comcast right now, and will see if my threat of cancelling my service can have them give me a better deal but I'm not holding my breathe.

Re: AT&T UVerse vs Comcast Xfinity

The price of stuff depends on where you live. I have Comcast, phone and internet, only pay $120 a month. I had ATT UVerse for a bit living in Indiana, for all 3 things I had with with Comcast, ATT was charging me $200 a month after their promotional new customer period had ended.

Far as internet speed goes, ATT was way slower then Comcast. So needless to say when I moved to the east coast, I went back to Comcast. I tried them all before, Comcast, UVerse, Dish, Direct TV, TimeWarner......Different locations charge differently for the same services.

Like out here in Vermont, DirectTV and Dish is sky high in prices. But they were kind of low in Indiana.

I imagine the $145 a month is some sort of introductory price point, and before you know it the price will be in line with Comcast's.

WOW. That's an insane amount for just TV and phone. I assume you have all the premium channels? HBO? Showtime?

          That's the sad part.. I don't.

No movie channels at all. I pay $120 for cable TV.

I have the extra charges from the following:
          HD service - $9
          DVR service - $8
          Extra Cable Box - $9
          2 Extra Digital Adapters - $4

$66 for internet cause I have their Blast Service that is suppose to be "30" mbps. But I rarely get anything over 20.

Hence the reason why I want to switch.

And I know that this is their introductory price and after 12 months or so, it goes back to normal.. but I still feel like I'm saving more money switching to ATT. I just want to make sure it's worth it.

I pay 100$ a month right now, but should shoot up to about 120 next month. However, I get basically everything you just said and 20mbps. However, I only have one box and it is HD with DVR. I had to pay an extra 7 a month for the sports pacakge to have NFLN.

I pay about $200/mo for phone, cable, and internet with Comcast. This includes all the premium movie channels as well as the sports package. I have 2 boxes as well.

I don't have Comcast, but I switched to Uverse and haven't regretted it, I pay $173 for Tv, phone, and 18M internet. TV I have every channel but all the foreign language stuff, including redzone. My year's promotional pricing is up in a couple months, we'll see what happens after that but I'm definitely not paying the almost $230 regular price.

I would also note that Uverse is HIGHLY dependent on how far you are from the VRAD, and the quality of the copper lines between you and the VRAD.

I keep reading about the VRAD. Is there a place I can check to see how far I am from mine?

Nope, you can look for it to get an idea, but outside of hooking things up there's no way to know. If you know where your cross box is the VRAD will be close, otherwise look for a large tan-grey box with a power meter on it and that would be a VRAD.

For Uverse I was disappointed in the HD picture for sports. It may have been just because of the distance involved, but I don't think it had anything to do with it as internet speeds were fine. At my house, I never got the TV hooked up, so I couldn't compare it. Basically the picture was way to compressed and artifacts were everywhere in fast motion shots. Comparing it to DTV, I wouldn't have been happy having it at my house.

You should be able to try it out though and if you have to go back to Comcast, it won't matter as they don't have contracts.

I live in Niles.. North Suburb of Chicago.

Today was the final straw for Comcast. Yesterday I had an internet outage. I was too busy to call them last night, so I chatted with them at work today.

This idiot of a rep named Jonathon comes on and starts sending out links about their customer service and all this crap. Finally takes about 20 minutes before he can finally pull my account up. I don't understand why it should take that long.

He proceeds to tell me he will perform a diagnostic check and that it will take 1-2 minutes. 5 minutes later, he states that its taking longer and needs more time.. ugh..

                            Finally comes back and says:

Jonathan: The health check says that the connection needs ton be check.
Jonathan: For this concern we need to check your connection and later we will run a test.
no duh!!! that's exactly why I called and told you that to begin with. It took about 30 minutes for this guy to get a clue. Then he proceeds to ask me to give him the MAC address for the modem. Well being that I had no internet connection, I had to go into the office, hence no one is home to check the MAC address.

I ask him why they do not have this information on file. He states that he needs to confirm if it matches the account. HUH?

How do they have information about equipment they've loaned to me, but are not sure it's the correct information? I begin telling him that I've had this modem for 4 years and that whatever information they have on file should be exactly the same. This is when I start getting furious..

John: how do you guys not have this information? shouldnt you be tracking the MAC address when you give out the modem?

Jonathan: We have this information John, we need to compare this information to check if it matches in the account.

John: whats the point in having the information if it doesn't match what is in my account?

Jonathan: John, we need this information to gather all the information while we are checking the account and for this test too.
Still baffled.. I'm in the IT field, and I know that giving out any equipment you make sure all details about that equipment are documented. How is it that they can't just run this test without having me give them all this information that they should already have?

Finally I got so pissed off, I walked out of my office and called Comcast to cancel my entire account. All this while this idiot Jonathon is still asking for my information and asking if I need a tech to be sent out.

Holy crap.. worst service ever. I just don't get it.

                            SERENITY NOW!!!

I take it this must have been Jonathan's first day or first week at work LOL. All they need is you account number and they can trace it to your house within 30 seconds to find out where in the line the problem is. If there is no problem in their line, then they will just send out a refresh single to your house. If that doesn't work, they will just tell you to reset your modem.

Most problems are fixed by resetting your modem anyway. If that doesn't work, THEN they will give you a ticket and send a tech out to your house to replace your modem or the wire inside of your house itself if need be.
