I disagree. I don't think this movie's CGI looks great let alone good. I would post screen caps of trailers but you all know how to nitpick certain things like I could if I wanted to.

I just don't think anything looks good in the trailers, but I could be proven wrong once seeing it on a big screen or a blu ray disc.

Is anyone else getting a little nervous on how this movie is going to turn out considering how much ad time it's getting? It seems like it's partnered with everything you can think of to get a mention.

Only thing that has turned me off thus far is the 3D. I'm still a firm believer that a film can't be at its peak in both 3D and 2D form (meaning if a film is "shot with 2D in mind," it's not taking advantage of what it could have done in 3D, and vice versa). Also not a fan of how few animatronics were used for this compared to the buttload of CGI.

I'm not saying your concern doesn't hold merit, but things like the director fully disclosing how much of a JP fan he has been, what kind of film he was going for, etc. I think there will be a lot of fan-service with the joy and wonder that 1 had and 2 & 3 seemed to lack. Early reactions have all been positive so far as well, though we'll have to wait for the embargo to lift on June 10th to see what they all really mean. I mean hey, early reactions were all positive for Tomorrowland as well and we see that swimming right around 50% on RT, so it's tough to say so far what kind of film we're going to get.

I don't expect this movie to be very good but it's Jurassic Park and I have to see it.

All I'm hoping for is that it is better than JP3. Yes, I'm setting the bar of expectations very low. If it manages to be better than Lost World...I would be pleasantly surprised.

Look, I'm going to be honest, if a Raptor is wielding a bazooka, I'd HAVE to see this in theaters.

CGI can capture details, but it can't capture 'weight' and the musty, gritty appearance of something like that.

CGI may have come a long way, but it has not replaced practical effects for everything that can still be achieved in other ways. I'm not saying they could get a pterodactyl to do some of these stunts, even in animatronics form... but that's where you decide your story first then the sequences later, not the other way around.

There are a lot of parts in movies now that people are not sure if it is CGI or not. Movies like transformers look just find the problem with a movie like that is the movie is like 99% action with like 1% something else. The thing with CGI is as time goes on and you see better the old stuff starts to look worse. I think CGI in movies is a lot like video games. When you had games on ps2 people where not saying this looks like crap but then when you started to see better on ps3 games then ps2 started to look worse in comparison and now games on like ps1 look like crap compared to what you get today. Also Jurassic park 1 was so ahead of its time to the point where a lot of things in the movie some how look better then things you see in other movies today. Also the thing with CGI is some times it can look better in motion then in photos or the way it moves can look odd kind of like animations in a video game. An good example of that was the last fight in asm2 with electro look really fake in photos but in motion look pretty good.

Obviously we already talked about this (as I quoted you regarding CGI last time), but it's not just that CGI was ahead of its time in JP, it's that it was carefully planned out. The T-Rex entrance is at night and in rain, and blended so perfectly with the animatronics shots around it. It wasn't splashed on screen like "Here is CGI," it found its way to make that shot work the best among all other kinds of shots. Environments were not green-screened, camera shots weren't trying to be fancy flying overheads, etc.

I'm not saying this film will be ruined by CGI, I'm just saying it was possibly the easy way out when there may have been other alternatives that weren't as carefully considered. Look at the raptor baby breaking out of the egg in JP1. If JP1 was filmed today, that would have been a CGI raptor, and no matter how real it might look, you'll still feel that something is off with the shot where you would not feel as intimately attuned with it as you do in the actual 1993 film. There is just a big difference there.

Now, many shots have to be CGI, I understand that and fully accept that. I'm just saying there is a blend to be had between CGI effects and practical effects. There is a shot I saw with a triceratops shaking and climbing to its legs that looks pretty hokey, and I hope it's refined for the theatrical release.

Anyhow, I'm very much looking forward to this film, have been since I expected JP4 to release in 2005. You'll see me there on Day 1 for sure, and I actually expect to be wowed. I just hope all visual interpretations of this film are made for the best.

I mean look, I'm not saying the CGI is bad, I'm just saying it's CGI. You want bad dino CGI? Look no further...

No I hear you. Part of what made Jurassic park look so good was not just how they used a lot of animatronics but things like being dark and in the rain and the light kind of hide the CGI and different camera angles and such. Day stuff didn't look as good. Like the last shoot in Jurassic park 1 didn't look as good has like the shoot of the T-Rex when it first comes out in the rain. So I do wish they would try to balance out the animatronics and CGI more like they did in the first 1. The best looking movies now how to blend CGI and practical together while. I heard like 60% of Jurassic park 1 was practical and only like 40% CGI. It would be interesting to know how much is CGI in Jurassic world vs Practical. I would guess it is like 75% CGI and like 25% Practical. Yeah I saw that trailer a few months ago but that is also for a low budget TV movie not a 200 Million block buster summer movie.

Was the entire movie filmed in IMAX or just certain scenes/upconverted? Debating on whether or not I want to pay the extra couple bucks for IMAX 3D.

So the reviews are starting to come in and things are not looking while. I thought this movie would get 75-85 RT score but so far there are 6 fresh and already 5 rotten. Hopefully it gets a lot of good fresh reviews in a row or hopefully this movie turns out to be one of those movies where fans like the movie a lot more then the critics.

Was kind of expecting the reviews to be so-so since they were so late coming. Usually most big releases get the movies out to the critics so they can review it for promotional purposes unless they are expecting them to be bad. If the first reviews don't show up on Rotten Tomatoes until Wednesday of the week the movie is released you can normally expect the movie to come in below 60%.
