Just saw this with the wife. Awesomesauce. Was entertained from start to finish. As others have said I'll see pretty much anything Chris Pratt is in. Dude is just solid. Dinosaurs man. That's all that's needed. Loved the end fight. I'd recommend to anyone.

Sent from my Galaxy s4 so deal with the short hand

      Re: Jurassic World (2015)

A little late to the party, but I finally saw it today. As a long time fan of the franchise, I liked JW, but didn’t really love it.

It was cool to the park fully operational (something I wondered about for years watching the original). I also enjoyed (and find realistic) that over time, people would lose interest in Dino’s, and the park would have to raise the bar. There were also several nods to the first film that were cool.

On the downside, the trailer gave away most of the movie. The whole raptors as military was a bit cliche….and I have no idea what the divorce arc added? The ending was exciting, but a bit over the top with a few things.

But at the end of the day, when I go to a Jurassic Park film, I am expecting cool Dino action, and the film certainly delivers there.

I'd like to see a non-Nolan movie that does not do this.

The whole raptors as military was a bit cliche
This just sounds funny because I've literally never heard or seen a single bit of material that has ever used raptors in this sense, with as little screen time raptors are ever given. Not sure if "cliche" is the right word, but I know what you mean all the same.

….and I have no idea what the divorce arc added?
The writers simply weren't able to develop the characters for themselves and needed a reason for them to possibly bond, or whatever. Plus, it maybe meant for more of a reason for the parents to not go on the trip (as you see the mom possibly continuing with divorce action when she was on the phone?). Reasons weren't good enough, but Ty Simpkins (Iron Man 3, Insidious) was believable enough that I didn't mind that little wrinkle added, if for no reason at all.

Yeah, sorry, didn't mean the Raptor were cliche....more so the guy that wanted to make a military weapon out of them. There was enough other things going on in the movie that I don't think they really needed this angle.

The previews gave away that the Raptors training story line...But I did like the part that their obedience was shaky at best. But later in the film wasn't so crazy about their flip-flopping allegiance.

I honestly think this is to set up any future sequels (InGen's whole end on things), and based on my initial post after seeing this film and other posts above us, I just don't think a sequel is something that would not either be a rehash of JP2/3 or something that fans of this franchise would be excited to watch. They should end it here, though it's likely they won't.

I avoided all trailers besides the first one, and even then I watched it in 240p. In fact, these days I tend to watch trailers for movies almost immediately after I see it (before I even post my impressions of the film here) and am just in awe over how much I'm glad I avoided seeing to begin with.

I doubt I'd feel it with this movie, but if it even manages to make me feel 1/10th of the magic I felt (and still feel) when I watch Jurassic Park, I think it'll be a good movie.

For some reason this stuck with me, and I kept this in mind when I went to see Jurassic World on Friday - and sure enough, when that old theme hit, the hair on my arms was standing up, and I felt that old shiver down my spine.

Really, really enjoyed it. Easily the second best movie in the franchise, IMO (and I'm not someone who hated the 2nd and 3rd movies like a lot of people). It really isn't possible for any successor to match the original, but at the same time people shouldn't go in expecting it to. It wasn't a perfect or exceptionally deep movie, but it was entertaining, exciting, and enjoyable - and (perhaps surprisingly) well-acted, I thought. Chris Pratt was great; hopefully the "multiple sequels" he's reportedly signed on for actually come to pass; how great would it be to see him and Sam Neill together somehow?

I even thought the kids were great, and I'm always skeptical of kid actors - but the look on Ty Simpkins' face as Zach and Gray rode the Gyrosphere amongst the Triceratops and Stegosaurs, that look of dumbstruck awe and wonder, that was the closest this franchise has come to that moment when Dr. Grant saw that first Brachiosaurus in the original. And the score playing during that scene was perfect (I really, really liked the music for the entire film).

I agree that they showed too much in the previews; kind of surprised about that, because they gave away a lot. Disappointed about that, because it took away a lot of the suspense during the movie. Overall though:

                    Re: Jurassic World (2015)

As much as I wanted to truly love this film, I did not. It was definitely better than the other two sequels, but that's not saying much, especially on JP3, which was god awful.

I think what made the original JP so magical was not just the CGI/FX, but the characters themselves. Sam Neil was excellent, Jeff Goldblum was excellent, Laura Dern was excellent, Richard Attenborough was excellent, then you had a bunch of somewhat fleshed out supporting roles like Nedry, Muldoon, Mr Arnold, etc.. Jurassic World did not have this. The only character in this movie that went through any kind of arc was Bryce's, and even that was goofy at times. Pratt was on screen to do something 'cool' every two minutes and that was the extent of his backstory.

I think it has that Die Hard vs. new Die Hard effect. For example, in the original Dr Grant is digging for dinosaurs, and is an "old school" blue collar guy, who is opinionated on his dino theories. He doesn't like kids or glamour. Yet he's thrown into a situation where he now has to apply his dinosaur knowledge off of researching bones his entire life, to evading real life dinosaurs. Like John McClane in the original Die Hard, blue collar mouthy NY Cop, thrown out of his element in LA, then ends up in the middle of a heist by super-criminals that he has to use his wits to combat. Then in the new Die Hard, he was flying motorcycles into helicopters and was essentially Captain America. That's how I felt about Owen compared to Grant. There was nothing for me to connect to him.

The supporting cast was just there, basic archetypes that never had any kind of development or motivation. I still don't know why Vincent D'Nofrio's character was doing what he was doing in the movie. The kids were just shoehorned in to have a Lex/Tim dynamic to the story.

And I simply felt the CGI-overuse was pretty goofy at times. Sort of took me out of the movie. Also, the lack of dino talk. In the original, there's tons of dino theories, talk, discussion, etc, there was practically none in this installment, the dinosaurs felt like empty background creatures. Overall, it was a solid popcorn flick, and I'm glad it's been as successful as it has been because I love the franchise and will always welcome more, good or bad, but I was kind of let down by it because of the lack of characters.

This movie was a BLAST. Took my son who has never seen a JP movie and he was in awe the whole time. Such a fun experience to share with him.

I went into the movie thinking I would be critical and may not enjoy it as much as the other movies, but as soon as the music hit on the island, I was geeked out for the rest of the movie.

This is definitely a day one buy on BR.

I liked it overall. I thought the only miscasting was Jake Johnson (Nick from New Girl). I also wasn't crazy about Vincent D'Onofrio playing that particular role. The character wasn't complex and he's built to play complex.

But if somebody could, give me a quick two sentence plot synopsis that would actually be both original and appealing for this franchise. If I'm sold, then I'll definitely see it to get more of my dino-dose.
