For those who have finished I highly recommend checking out the original House of Cards series that was made in the early 90's. Ian Richardson was masterful and no doubt had a huge factor on how Spacey played his part. The Ohio State University

Re: House Of Cards [Netflix Original] 2/01/13
Netflix ordered 26 episodes (13 X 2 seasons). Filming on #2 begins in 2 or 3 weeks. I think I read where those 26 epps cost $100 million.
Robin Wright said something interesting in regards to "binge viewing" (not her words). She viewed it more as a 13 hour movie than a 13 hour TV series.Last edited by JayBee74; 02-20-2013, 01:29 PM.Comment

Re: House Of Cards [Netflix Original] 2/01/13
Thoroughly enjoyed the first season. There were times it felt a bit over the top, but the season finished STRONG. Kinda wish I spread the episodes out a bit more, but I couldn't help but storm right through 'em.
Spoilers concerning the last episodes ahead.
SpoilerI was really warming up to Russo, really thinking he was going to get his **** straight but was not surprised the wheels fell off. Just did not see them going so hard at him after he threatened Francis with blowing the whistle on the editorial. Him personally taking dude out seems insanely overboard, but maybe that comes up concerning his personal involvement.
And I'm loving Stamper. Cold. Calculating. But I think he might be having second thoughts on how deep this thing is going. CANNOT WAIT.

Re: House Of Cards [Netflix Original] 2/01/13
Finished the entire season last week. Loved it. Can't wait for Season 2. I really dig British writing (original adaptation) and this just cemented my views.
Couple of observations/questions:
Spoiler1. Frank Russo was homosexual, no? That episode where he went back to his alma mater for the library dedication, he seemed to have a trist with the one guy from back in the day. Am I reaching?
2. Claire is a bad bitch. You think she was tape recording the girl who has the lawsuit against her? She went to her house, got her riled up and the girl admitted to saying that she would lie just to bring shame and negative press to Claire and her company. Anyone else catch that?
3. Claire said she had 3 abortions. Do you guys think they were Frank's kids or she got pregnant messing with her NY photographer? Weird observation on my part
4. The head of the police department who threw out the arrest on Russo, wouldn't he put 2 & 2 together on Russo's death? And the prositute too? They both knew that Russo was being worked by Stamper. And how long before Stamper drops dime on Frank? He didn't know Frank was gong to the extent of killing him.
5. Who is Zoe gong to screw next? My guess is the BBQ guy

Re: House Of Cards [Netflix Original] 2/01/13
Spoiler
Before they fell into that drunk sleep, they were reminiscing about some time they spent together back in college.
And then before Frank left to go back to DC, he had to give that same guy a one-on-one goodbye.
I just thought that entire episode was weird and I actually felt it was the worst episode of the season. What was the point of it? He didn't care about the library. He cared about his friends and this one guy in particular.
I think Frank was a switch hitter.Comment

Re: House Of Cards [Netflix Original] 2/01/13
SpoilerI totally missed the tape recorder. If Claire actually did that, they other chick is cooked.
Also, does anyone think that Francis wanted Russo to fail from the start of the gubernatorial campaign? I believe that Francis just kind of fell into the vice presidency when his plan to get his guy into office backfired. There was no way he could have known Claire would backstab him. This is where I see the whole conspiracy story falling apart.Comment

I agree, that episode could have been left out and the season wouldn't have suffered.

I think Frank wanted a puppet in PA which was the state that the Dems needed to secure for the next presidential election. I don't think he wanted Russo to fail.
He knew the current VP had no real power as a VP. But how could he free up the VP spot for himself when the guy was pretty much just a lame duck.
I agree with you on Zoe. I think Frank thought she would just be forever indebted to him where it was pretty obvious that she would just sleep with any and everyone to further her career and status.
I wouldn't be surprised to see in Season 2, Frank trying to set Zoe up with fake stories to get her blacklisted or something.

To your point I don't know what was going on it that episode, but I was thinking the same thing, but forgot about it almost immediately, if that makes any sense.*
Easily the worse part of the series. To be frank it was a terrible episode.
*SpoilerI was thinking this is why his real name is Francis.Comment

I know in the original HOC, his name was Francis Uquhart or something like that. Looks like they definitely wanted to keep the "F.U." initials.
SpoilerBut yeah. What other purpose did that episode serve? A library dedication that he said he didn't even care about. I thought that episode was more about character building and these guys go off together (the other 2 guys were nowhere to be found) for no apparent reason.
They got all touchy feely staring into each others eyes before they fell asleep. I was just like...okaaaaay. Maybe it comes out in Season 2.
I didn't want to rant about it. It's just something that stuck out to me in an episode that served no real purpose and I wanted to see if anyone caught what I did.Comment
