This season has been mehhh.

I'm usually not one to hate on one of my favorite shows for having a few poor episodes, but I'm not enjoying this season much.

This season I actually have enjoyed the side stories of Deb and Elway, Vince and his daughter, and Quinn and Jamie all more than I have enjoyed the stories surounding Dexter himself (Deb/Brain Surgeon/Vogel/Zach/Hannah)

Hopefully they do a good job in the closing episodes to wrap it up in an entertaining, intense way. I don't want one or two poor seasons at the end of the shows life to make me think less of the show(*cough* Prison Break *cough cough*)

Disappointed about what happened to Cassie. Was hoping we might get a chance to see Bethany Joy Lenz nekkid.

After seeing Masuka's daughter's assets I think it would have been a let down.

So, with all the twisting and turning this season is taking, here are my completely random, off the wall, yet somehow plausible predictions/theories.

First up, who killed Cassie?

This one, they heavily hinted at. It's obviously someone who wanted Zack caught. So it can be none other than...

Jamie. What? Jamie? Yes. Jamie. But all signs point to Quinn! Ahh, but there are some hints pointing away from him too. First off, he never pressures Dexter to on whose blood it was under Cassie's fingernail. If he did kill Cassie and plant Zack's blood there, he'd know exactly where it was and be pressuring Dexter/Masuka to find out who's it was. But he never does that. In fact, he even goes to Cassie's boyfriend to ask if he and Cassie knew him. He suspected it was him, but didn't know it was him. If he was the killer, he'd immediately suspect something when Dexter says the blood under the fingernail wasn't Zack's.

So what do we know about Cassie's death? Well, we know Cassie let her killer into her apartment willingly. Meaning it had to be someone she knew. She might willingly let Quinn in, but why would she? They've met, but really don't know each other well. Her boyfriend is a possibility, but he has an alibi. So who could it be? Jamie. She's angry Batista didn't give Quinn the promotion, and knows that catching Norma's killer would get him that. It's likely Quinn mentioned him at some point, so it wouldn't be hard to find him and put the blade on the car. From there, she takes his blood, goes to Cassie's, kills her, and attempts to frame Zack. Thinking for sure Dexter would reveal Zack to be the killer (not knowing they were allied), Quinn would get him, Zack caught, and Quinn promoted.

Second: The Brain Surgeon is back! Who could it be?

This one takes a bit of thinking. First thought is obviously Vogel, but something tells me the writers have another Ace up their sleeve. So who is it?

The soon to be revealed son of Vogel: Cassie's boyfriend.

But how does that make any sense? So here it is.

Why do I suspect he's Vogel's son? Well, the only thing we have hinting at it right now is their accents being somewhat similar. That, and they've done the "secret family member is a killer trying to help their parent," storyline already, so it's likely they could twist it around a bit to get what follows.

When asked "Why she got into her 'field'," Vogel responds to Hannah that it's too long a story. This clearly hints at either her, or someone she was very close to being a psychopath and her striving to understand/control it. Let's go with the second option, a loved one. Vogel goes into the psychology field, gets married, has a son. Her son grows up and becomes a psychopath. She realizes this relatively early, and sets out to control him. This gets her into the field of studying psychopaths. Eventually, she is able to control him and his urge to kill. Her experiment is only mildly successful though, as, even though she has some control over him, it's not full control, and he still has to kill from time to time. Much like how Harry let Dexter kill animals to quell his urges, Vogel lets her son do similar.

Striving to create a "more perfect" psychopathic killer to be used for good, she convinces Harry to train Dexter to become who he is. Years later, she returns to not only visit in on her star pupil, but test him as well. Together with her son, she comes up with the "Brain Surgeon" killer, to test Dexter's abilities. She figures that allowing Dexter to kill off some of her failed experiments should do the trick and sets up him to kill the guy with the head scars (name escapes me). After he kills him, she gets her son to go back into hiding and disappear.

Only he doesn't disappear. While going about, he meets Cassie. Much like Dexter falling in love with Hannah, he goes against typical psychopath behavior and falls in love with Cassie.

So when he returns to find Cassie dead, he gets angry. His urge to kill, which had just been fed by his mother, rises up rapidly and he wants revenge. However, he doesn't know who to blame. That is, until Quinn visits him. He recognizes Zack because he knows his mother has taking a liking to him and wants to train him to become more like Dexter. Vogel's son knows Zack is a killer, and now assumes that, since Quinn is asking about him, that he must be Cassie's killer. After Dex, Hannah, and Zack have dinner at Vogel's house, and Vogel takes Zack home, Vogel's sun ambushes him, kills him, and leaves him for Dexter (assuming Dexter was the one who got him to kill Cassie). He uses the Brain Surgeon routine as a warning to his mother and Dexter that they're next on his revenge list. When Dexter finds Zack's body, minus part of the skull, he calls Vogel, who is shown to be holding a piece of brain in a jar. During this shot, a tear is clearly seen running down her cheek. She knows her creation has gone rogue, as she feared from the beginning.

Again, as I said, completely random and off the wall, but with the reasoning I have, I could see them as plausible.

I've just gotten caught up all the way from the beginning of season 6. Boy oh boy is this show incredible. After season 5 I just forgot about the new seasons, and nowI'm glued to it again.

Those theories aren't bad at all. I hadn't considered either of them but they make sense, especially the latter.

Yeah, I'm definitely thinking the same in regards to that second theory.

As for the first one, I've seen it thrown out other places too, but I'm not buying it. Too much of a reach IMO, even for this show. I think it's The Brain Surgeon/Cassie's boyfriend/Vogel's son that set up Zach.

Assuming we're correct on Cassie's boyfriend being those two other things, it would make sense because they established earlier in the season that The Brain Surgeon was aware of what Dexter and Vogel were doing. Zach was frequently visiting Vogel, and of course has been with Dexter, and there was that scene where Cassie was leaving with the boyfriend and seen Zach and Dexter together.

Also, this past episode when Quinn interviewed the boyfriend and showed him a picture of Zach, notice how the boyfriend said he looked familiar but didn't give Quinn anything more than that? If you ask me, it's him.

DUDE! That was a lot of Dexter ***. Would've liked some Hannah's too, showrunners!

That was a really good episode! It's definitely setting and ramping things up for the end-game.
