Everyone said more than one thing. You made points. I made points. Others made points. What I was bringing to the "podium" was in keeping with the discussion, so please don't simply discount it just because you don't like it or can't agree with it. And please don't make it seem like I'm the one who is problematic in the debate here. It's a good and important topic. But in the interest of not derailing the thread, I'll let that be my last point, as long as you don't talk down to me.

I'm not here to judge anybody really. I just take this as the numbing down of violence and sex to young minds. We didn't have Modern Warfare games as kids. Rated R movies from then would barley be PG-13 now. It's just more and more mature then it ever was. The most violent video game from my childhood was Mortal Combat and while violent it was still very cartoonish. Video games now let you snip a very realistic looking person in the head or kill them in a number of ways. Young minds are constantly developing and can be warped very easily. Just my two cents as a parent.

I understand why there may be some fear of R-rated overload which is sure to follow now after this films outstanding (and well deserved) success but I welcome it with open arms.

I have wanted an R-rated Batman forever. They could do an R-Rated "The Killing Joke" easily.

Can't wait to see what Deadpool 2 is gonna look like with what I am gonna have to assume is gonna be a greatly increased budget.

A friend of mine, who's a teacher, went to a seminar last year which showed the science behind what happens to a young childs mind when they're exposed to violence from TV and video games.

He said after leaving that seminar, he was very tempted to throw every TV out of their house.
Before this, he was very liberal about what his 7 and 9 year would watch and play on their PS3.
But now, they're viewing choices have narrowed to basically nature shows and certain sports.
Same goes for what video games they have access to.

There are also studies that have shown videogames and TV shows have no effect on children. I wrote a paper, nothing formal, on this in my sophomore year of college.

                  Re: Deadpool

I don't particularly think this movie is terrible for kids. We treat sex as this untouchable/unspeakable thing when it comes to kids (which is partially why teen pregnancy rates are so high, because instead of educating it's considered taboo). Instead of exposing them to sex, we hide them away and say they can't know anything about it. I wouldn't want a kids first exposure to sex to be this movie, but if they've already had some education about it, then they're not getting anything outrageous from this movie.

The cussing is just language. Cuss words only have power if you give them power.

Exactly. All of the findings are correlational. Correlation does not equal causation. If you educate the child that what they're seeing on TV is fantasy, you can negate the majority of negative effects.

                    Re: Deadpool

Or maybe because to the young mind sex is glorified (movies, music, tv) and then they find out it feels good and want to do it more. The developing mind cannot relate to the decision logic of the adult mind. Therefore we protect those young minds for a reason. Sex education is one thing, having deadpool say that his dick will feel bigger in his tiny hand is not helping kids understand about sex. This. Movie. Is. Inappropriate. For. Kids.

Like I said earlier, different people, different views, different parenting.

But I also said that in this idiotic society we live in, its my way or no way anymore. Choices on how people raise their kids or feel about certain topics are getting limited and limited. Merica

I got the Deadpool gAme out of redbox and it's a perfect compliment to the movie. It's a really funny game. Probably the funniest since South Park Stick of Truth. The gameplay is shallow and nothing special. Definate rental material but well worth the time.
