I have a general question regarding the S.H.I.E.L.D. acronym, independent of the show (and actually pertaining to the movies). Just didn't want to bump anything else to ask it, so I'll go ahead and ask it here.
Captain Marvel took place well before Iron Man in the timeline, yet in IM1 Agent Coulson tells Pepper that they were working on [a name] for Strategic Homeland Intervention, Enforcement, and Logistics Division." Then by the end of the film, he says: "Just call us S.H.I.E.L.D." as if they finally were okay with the name now that they figured out "Hey, it's an acronym" (like no one would have noticed that immediately, but whatever I'll go with it).
So was that just a throwaway joke line in IM1 that they decided to retcon/ignore for Captain Marvel? Actually, does the show ever blast back to timeline bits before IM1 when they're calling it S.H.I.E.L.D. as well?
Thanks for attending to my curiosity.
