There was a Grantland podcast with the President of FX and he described his rationale for programming and he describes why they didn't run Breaking Bad among other topics. I think FX is one of the best channels for because they give their show runners a lot of freedom to fulfill their vision. It's a good podcast for anyone interested in the executive aspects of tv programming.

For anyone who doesn't listen to the 'Breaking Bad Insider' podcast, Vince Gilligan talked about rejected ideas for the show on the last podcast. One of them was pretty crazy and it involved Walt getting revenge. Some of his ideas were pretty out there.

I think you should be trusting FX, especially when it comes to dramas. The Shield is a borderline top 5 show of all time, Justified is one of the best shows currently on TV, and The Americans looks like it can be right up there with it.

Sons of Anarchy is FX, right?

Looks like I will be starting with The Shield and watching the others named. I want to catch up on SoA before its last season.

The Shield is semi-episodic for its first few seasons, but has a fantastic, well-planned endgame on par with Breaking Bad (although BB is a better show overall IMO). Well worth your time.

Breaking Bad Insider starts season 2. It's made by the people who made the show. Vince Gilligan does a bunch of them as well as writers and actors. Alan Sepinwall's podcast started during season 2 (http://www.hitfix.com/podcasts/firewall-iceberg/21). There are lesser known podcasts that started sooner but they aren't as good IMO.
